hi, just bought a 1994 993 c2 cabrio at the weekend and loving it although am very aware that it is a monster. My last rear wheel drive car was dissapointing but had traction control (z4).
Anyway i was wondering if anyone could help me with a few things,
1. when do i know its time to replace the clutch? The car has done 85k but to me the gear change is very smooth except between 1 and 2

2. can anyone recommend a simple, effective easy to install speed camera detector?

3. Although i love the sound of the engine i want to switch my tape player for a cd player and wan tto know if its safe to let anyone do this?

cheers

If it gets difficult to change gear. If the car, despite, the clutch being completely despressed, lurches and crunches as you put it into gear. Or, even worse, the revs rise as you press the gas but the car does not speed up - time to get it looked at.

Even better. Visit a Porsche specialist and ask them to test drive the car (with you in it) and get their opinion.

Yes. Buy a Road Angel. It fits to your screen via suckers and the power cable comes from your lighter socket. No need to hard wire it in. You can move it from car to car.

IIRC the 993 has the standard DIN slot. This should not be beyond the skills of a regular installer...

Is buying a Road Angel sound advice? IIRC it has a radar detector as well as a GPS system: radar detectors look like being banned soon, so presumably the whole package could become a waste of money?

I have a Snooper with separate GPS and radar - I lose only the one element and will still have a warning of GATSOs and all the other fixed installations.

Sounds more like a synchro problem.

Is this when cold, or when hot and cold?

Road Angel 1 - laser alert is a plug-in

Road Angel 2 - laser alert integrated, but with software mod can be switched off which will be released if laser detectors are ruled illegal.

I'll continue to use my Snooper with laser alert whether legal or not - have been using radar detectors for 18 years and the only time I wasn't using one I was caught!

the 1 and 2 thing is when hot and cold, i think it might just be laziness though in that if i am more careful it doesn't seem to happen.

I thought so, personally. Try it for a year £60 - if you don't make use of it its not so bad.

I don't bother with the club meets. But the mag is good - and has loads of useful ads in it for insurance and so on.

I go to a good few of their Track Days - love 'em. Even if Melv does pass me like I was standing still... Lovely atmosphere - very "club". Start talking to anyone and they'll immediately be friendly and take in interest...

Why? Does he get a discount or preferential treatment? (if the answer's to the affirmative, I'll make sure I mention you when I renew mine, but in 18 years of membership I've never received any kind of discount!)
