The first concert I ever went to was to watch Queen at Bingley Hall in Stafford in November 1975 just as they were on the cusp of making it really big. B R had just been released.

It simply can't be 40 years, not a hope. I remember singing that when I was a joyful teenager, about to go swimming with a bunch of mates.
That was about 10 years ago in my head.

Me jealous too. I can only imagine the theatrics involved!

I've just come in from a good evening of curry and friends, feet up, headphones on at listened through the whole of the NatO album. Reminds me I was never really that heavily into Queen, apart from all the singles. (Always found other bands more interesting at the time.)

I'm actually not sure if I have ever listened to this album all the way through before. At BR it's so obviously a construct of various parts, but the track and the whole album is interwoven with some fantastic guitar, infectious bass coming in at times and what can you say about drums, piano and vocals. Some of it was dated even before it was recorded, but it all "works", even from the perspective of those forty years!!

Glad it's not just me, though the clue is that I'm going to a mate's 50th birthday party soon and we were the same year at school...

Think I'll have to have a blast of it later, the 5.1 remixed version they brought out on DVD (a good few years ago now too, probably more than the two weeks ago it seems ) sounds amazing as the voices leap around the room.

Put the 5.1 version on last night after we'd watched a film. Still sounds as great as ever...me and the OH can't help but do the 'Wayne's World' headbanging bit sitting on the sofa like a couple of idiots. Ended up watching the rest of the DVD and BR once again for good measure, some cracking tunes that suddenly now seem a lifetime ago, especially watching the videos.

When you look at their output from 1971-1980 ,I can't think of anyone who compares for the sheer variety of styles they encompassed.
I think they went downhill when they became a pop band in the 80s ,but in that 'golden' period they were magic.

I remember crowding round the radio at school on chart day to see if it was still no 1 , unfortunately that was 40 years ago

Yep, when you think of the magic of Don't Stop Me Now, You're My Best Friend etc compared to the mid 80s rubbish like I Want To Break Free.

Agree ,but Breakthru,of the 80,s and. These are the days of our lives of the 90,s. are great tracks, up there with the best, IMHO .

I got hold of my Mums copy of Sheer Heart Attack when I was 8ish and a bit later, when I was 10, Greatest Hits - played them to death on my record player - one of those 1970s portable jobbies with integrated speaker. When I was old enough to go to the record shop I bought A Day At The Races, Queen I & II. Still some of my favourite albums. I even liked Hot Space and My Bad Guy.

The covers band I'm in use WWRY (Live Killers fast version) and Tie Your Mother Down as set openers... Happy Days.
