Afternoon all, one of my friends is having some issues with his Polo and was hoping someone on here could point us in the right direction!

Car is a 2011 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 petrol, 60 bhp version.

The yellow engine management light and traction control light came on yesterday but the car was driving ok initially. A few hours later when he went to start it the red battery light came on and the car started cutting out when you let your foot off the throttle.

The AA came out and read the codes which were:

16725 camshaft position sensor circuit, signal not feasible. Permanent
17549 load calculation cross check: implausible value. Intermittent

The EML and TCS lights are still on and the car is in limp mode.

The camshaft position sensor has been replaced with a £20 one from Euro Car Parts today and codes cleared, yet the lights remain on and the car is still in limp mode.

Can anyone advise where to go from here?

Any help would be much appreciated smile

I have the same Polo with the same fault and errors...

It would be much appreciated if you can share what the problem was and how you fixed it? Cheers.

Sure, here are the codes...

The symptoms are exactly the same as in the original post the car is spluttering and as you accelerate it loses revs/power.

Since starting this thread I have received a couple of PMs asking what the final problem was, so time to update this with a conclusion.

It turned out the issue was a stretched timing chain which is seemingly a common issue on these. My mate unfortunately ended up killing his engine as a result from driving it with the fault, and was quoted something stupid like £7k for a new engine from Arnold Clark. In the end he went straight to VW and they took the price down to £1k as the car had a full service history.

This was around the time the diesel scandal was kicking off (2015), so I seriously doubt you would get such goodwill now.

So if your VAG car with this engine exhibits these symptoms, stop driving it and take it to a garage who knows what they are doing! This particular car went to a few small garages who all missed it, thinking it was various sensors / bad fuel etc.
