My son (age 8) has asked for a radio controlled Mercedes Unimog for Christmas. There aren't many radio controlled Unimog models on the market, of those that are available, the Tamiya model (58609) with the CC01 chassis appears best to my eyes.

It's been quite a while since I bought a Tamiya kit, anyone got any recommended suppliers? - ModelsportUK comes up in Google searches a lot.

Modelsportuk are well known and reliable. They sponsor tamiyaclub too I think.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to building it!

I used to work at Time Tunnel Models and would therefore have to recommend them.

I'd go for this deal, plus the £15 upgrade for paint, fast charger and bigger battery. It's a really good deal, even without my endorsement! And a small UK business too smile

TTM are great to deal with. Bear in mind that the Unimog comes in a few different chassis and flavours, and there are usually numerous kit bundles available too.

Thanks for the link to Time Tunnel - hadn't heard of them, but the prices look good.

The cross county chassis looks the most appropriate, I've already got a Lunchbox with the wheelie chassis which he can use if he wants.

I believe Russy01 on here runs Jadlam Racing Models and has a good reputation - worth messaging him maybe?

Time Tunnel deal isnt bad and I dont like to dirty them but the stuff offered for £185 is pretty poor. Cheap Radio, Overnight Charger and a small 1800mah battery, plus they swipe out the Tamiya Electrics (to sell on eBay for £20) and stick in a cheaper Mtroniks version. Its a decent little ESC and we actually sell them - but it doesn't have the Brushless compatibility or quality of the Tamiya Unit.

For £190 my package would include 2x 3300mah batteries and a 2A charger. Pop me a message if you're interested - got them on order and stock should be arriving next week.

Which ever kit you get, if it's not already ball-raced then budget another few quid to add one.

Struggling to find any such deal on your website for any other Tamiya RC? Your deals start at £50 for 1 battery and overnight charger. The Unimog kit in question should cost around ~ £148 on your pricing structure, so is there any way I can buy just the combo section of your Deal above for £42 inc delivery? Cos it would be an absolute steal.

I've always been very happy with the service and prices from Russy01...

I think my 3.5year old son might be asking for a SuperClodbuster for christmas this year. :-)

SuperCB or Beetle is the next one on my list. Still have to cut and paint the body for the Capri I got last Christmas off the Mrs who said she got a very good deal off Russy.

Remember that Russy has to make a living and that the prices on his site are the normal prices. I can't think of a single time he hasn't shaved a little off those if asked nicely by a PHer or others i have pointed to Jadlam.

I'm not arguing, I'm intrigued. I can't see how you'll possibly be making much money @ £190 for the deal you outlined, on a £148 kit (approx, because you don't actually have any stock).

If there's an alternative distributor in the UK for that level of gear at profitable margins like that I'd be interested in knowing who it was!
