Website hosting....
Discussion
We are coming to the end of our first year with the company that built our website. They e-mailed their fees over and they are 60 Euro a month for hosting. That to me sounds quite high so I have asked what I'm going to be getting for the monthly fee as I haven't got a clue if that really is expensive or reasonable.
What do the PH gurus think?

Depends what your getting, bandwidth usage, extra services like backups, support etc. €720 per year is both terrible value and also excellent value, depending on your needs.
^^This. They could be f
king you over, it could be the bargain of the year.I do think there is a funny race to the bottom with web hosting where people seem to focus on little but price.

Do you have any specification for the current hosting solution? What do the PH gurus think?
It could be a rip off or it could be good value for money until you have specification you don't know .
Server type bandwidth usage storage size et cetera et cetera
€60 per month is taking the piss I think.
It does depend on:
- How big your website is
- If you have any payment processing
- If you have SSL certificate(s)
- If any regular updates are required on a monthly basis that is included
I would imagine their own reseller hosting package would cost less than €60 per month.

It's a Drupal website hosted in AWS. The cost of that hosting isnt €60/month, however AWS needs supporting and a decent backup plan organising. It could well be that's rolled into a monthly service charge and presented to you as 'Hosting'
I'd also take a guess that €60/month is a lot lower amount to pay to keep it up and online vs not having it there.
As an aside, and while that's not to question right now, the security and transaction side is something I'd want to be looking more into if that was my site, and asking the devs what they're up to or looking back at their suggestions on build and wondering whether I'd veto'd anything because it might have been expensive to code.

TSO Host. All day, every day.
I'm with TSOHost through Vidahost, but I'm not sure I'd recommend them over what the OP already has if I'm honest. TSOHost are great, the uptime is decent, the support when you need things is decent, but the OP would be looking at a managed VPS for either £40 or £70/month; https://www.tsohost.com/managed-servers/linux-vps
The problem is, I think they'll only manage the server not the application, as in the Drupal website and the coding that goes with it. That's where the devs that wrote the application will need to step in, say if it needs updating or some bugs fixing. I cant imagine TSOHost having that much to do with it, not for £40/month.
AWS Hosting is piss cheap, I'd probably guess that the actual 'hosting' cost to them is around €2-5/month if that, depending on how much traffic the OPs site generates. It's supporting the application and the environment. So if it goes wrong, or the servers disappear, being able to take that application and drop it onto a new server quickly with as little downtime as possible, as if nothing ever happened (ie orders arent lost, latest versions are kept etc)
