I love the console, I love the interface, I love the Kinect.

But I CANNOT bloody stand the Updates/Installation force. I know that it's there for a reason but my god, what happen to the days where you could just pop in a disc and play your game? Now I have to wait about 4 hours before I can actually play the damn thing.

And it seems if you leave your xbox alone for a week, youll come back to 1931243u843u23GB of updates waiting to install.

Is it the same on PS4?

This the future of gaming I'm afraid; no more jumping onto a game after a few weeks for a quick bash. You need to install the 2GB update first.... rolleyes

I haven't got a PS4, but PSN on the PS3 at least let you set it up to auto-update games at a convenient time. Not much good if it's the first time you're playing it though.

This is why I prefer PC gaming; buy everything through Steam (usually on sale) and let that deal with the updates for you when you turn the PC on. New releases and games come with any updates already applied. Not to mention pre-loading new releases ready for release time, avoiding the need to update.

Yep I agree, my single biggest annoy for XBone. I don't have much time to play so when I do I just want to pop it on for 30 minutes or so, but oh no, update time, 1 hr later even on fibre and still can't play - grrrr.

Never have this problem with mine.

It updates automatically when I'm not using it, and all my games are digital purchases so automatically the 'proper' version. Makes life very easy, and a damn sight better than the PS3 was.

My phone tells me how many apps need updating, and I can get it to do them all at once.

Why do I have to leave the Xbox on to get the same functionality :/

I think you might be the only one who loves the interface.

The internet happened, which means things can be developed right up to release day. You can always unplug your console and never go online with in, just like the good old days.

Just leave it on the sleep state. Does it really use that much more electricity?

Any games I'm pre ordering now get on the console store and are nearly always put up for download a few days before release so they are ready to go at midnight anyway. Now, games that are on my hard drive take priority over getting off the couch and changing discs around!

You can still play the game on PS4 whilst the update downloads (if you don't have it set to download in standby)

PS4 seems to download at 2% of the available speed/bandwidth - either hard wired or wifi. I wouldn't mind the updates if they could max out your connection speed. (We have 2 PS4 and they both behave this way).

Yes the interface is going to change, I get early updates part of development program, had new interface since weekend. It's different.

Being on the development program is not all good, you get a fair bit of buggy stuff that needs a fix but that is the point they want guinea pigs to test it.

My PS3/4 check for, download and install updates when I'm at work. Never had a problem with them, though doing the game updates can be tiresome.

The Xbox is much nicer console than the PS4 to use. The lack of power (which isn't so much of an issue now, but will be in the future) is unforgivable (then again, if the expected life cycles are accurate then I think both consoles are woefully underpowered. But I am a nerd).

The Xbox joypad breaking connection with the console after a few minutes is a pain in the arse.

After that, I really like my Xbox One! And I was a fully committed PC nut, with a PS4 for spare. The Xbox was an impulse buy and is actually used more than the PC and PS4!

Modern console gaming in general can be a ballache at times. It doesn't matter which system you're on. When the Xbox 360 came out title updates were limited to 4MB. How times have changed.

Same here, no dramas at all (However mine are Disc versions of all except the "games with gold" freebies...not that it makes any difference just saying) OP leave it on "instant on" (console light OFF, power brick light displaying white) mode and set Updates to "download automatically".

Hope that helps

Really? I find it dreadful.
The interface is pathetic.

I find it varies, most of the time it's full steam ahead (like when I downloaded MGSV), other times (like when the Battlefront beta was released), it can be quite slow.

Had Both

However the PS4 blew up a month out of warranty, no rush to buy another as there are no exclusives that make it worth buying again until Street Fighter V or GT7 come out.

Very much enjoying the better online service and experience on a whole that XBL gives us

Given the choice again I'd have not bothered with the PS4 at all to be honest

I hated the PS3 with a passion, but put up with it for Last of Us, Resistance 1-3, Heavy Rain.

I will buy a PS4 for Uncharted 4. I will no doubt hate the console, but it does look like they put some effort into the controller (maybe).

I have both the Xbox One and a PS4. They both force updates and downloads on you.

The thing I hate most about the Xbox One is the clunky user interface (soon to be changed to a new system though). The thing I had most about the PS4 is the rather naff joypad, though it is at least miles better than their previous efforts.
