To be fair, if they reposition the Think campaign the right way they'd be onto a winner - a complete and utter winner.
The sad thing is, I suspect (but I really hope I'm wrong) that it'll be more of the same old same old. More, lower, magic numbers on sticks - automatically enforced.
But like I say - I really do hope I'm wrong...

Seems to be reasonably well rounded, it's not all about speeding after all.
I have a few suggestions for some other "05/06 Campaign areas"
THINK! About switching off your fog lights
THINK! About replacing that blown headlamp bulb
THINK! About insuring your car
THINK! About telling the DVLA you bought it AND then get it taxed (especially when you park it outside my house everyday or I will grass you up...)
THINK! About lane discipline on Roundabouts- SPIRAL you muppet
THINK! About not driving in the middle lane ALL the time
yeah, that would make it better

In 2000 we set a target of a 40% reduction in the numbers of killed or injured on our roads by 2010, and a 50% reduction for children. We are already well on track to meet these stringent targets. The latest 12-month data shows an reduction of 24 percent in the number of people killed or seriously injured, and a 41 percent reduction for children. Road casualties are at the lowest for nearly fifty years and for the first time, less than one hundred people are killed or seriously injured on our roads each day.
Despite this progress, we cannot be complacent - last year 3508 people died on the roads. Many of us have seen the misery that road casualties can cause, or been personally affected by them.
So, the plan has been in place for 4 years. The death rate has increased but the KSIs reduced and the number of kids killed is down.
So the massive reduction in car prices has resulted in fewer bangers and the better designed more modern vehicles with better protection for pedestrians are now a larger percentage of the motoring pool. As a consequence despite the number of deaths increasing the number of injuries, not surprisingly has gone down. Can you imagine if all the do gooders and assorted idiots were rounded up and made to pick up litter how many lives car manufacturers could save with these excellent designs?
Time to smash every camera and dig up every hump. Pull the thieving scrotes out the talivans and set the vans on fire, enough is enough.
The think campaign is lies and bullshit and I am sick of being lied to by people with no brains and no imagination.MMC said:

After reading various newspapers which carried story that the police want double the number of scams (reportedly now 6,000 in UK), They now want to place them at "areas of comminity concern" - supposedly where Mr Busybody has asked for one....
I actually know of one "rat -run" road which really meets current criteria for a speed camera - but the excuse is "not many cars use the road" (on which 4 people have been run over in past 3 years and on which people do drive at ca 50 mph despite it being a 30 mph residential - houses on one side and a children's play area on the other!")
Think the excuse that "not many cars drive along it" - given to person who lives on this road and recorded in local paper some time last year - it's in LanCASH££££re - is a just a bit of a giveaway.
"Daily Mail" report (today) quotes police as saying:
"People slow down for the cameras but the deaths are still happening elsewhere, where the rules prevent us from using cameras."
Err...regression to the mean?
Apart from the obvious: each accident is unique - with its own peculiar chance events.
When will they learn? Bad driving (which may include inappropriate speed) causes accidents; chance set of circumstances causes accidents. Alert person tootling along a smooth flowing or empty road a tadge over a speed limit does not...
In this "Daily Mail" report - Tim Yeo commented that the Tories would re-introduce traffic police instead... to cop the drunks, etc etc...
I think an e-mail to all the people at the bottom of list thanking them for not making a big deal out of the least of course to accidents (speeding), and the fact that they are looking at the main causes of death and accidents, which are on the increase since the Government are hell bent on reducing police levels and replacing them with cash registers.

Where can I find a source for year on year accidents and fatalities? A graph, or table, if you like?
Now, where do you think?

This is very interesting.
It would be great if it could be placed as a "sticky" at the top of this site somewhere for easy reference if that would be OK for all concerned.(?)
