Fake, fake, fake....

Someone has stitched together a bundle of stills and called it a video - my three year old grand-daughter could have done it (the stitching, not the barrel roll....)

I'd be amazed it the Daily Wail's claim of a CAA investigation is true

Do you mean the video itself or the subject of the video

It looks like one of the previously posted wingovers where theyve skipped a couple of frames so it looks like a roll

Pretty sure its real I watched it over Rutland Water just before then followed it on FR24 and twitter. There were lots of comments on twitter about it being rolled and a rather large altitude spike on FR24 I suppose it could have been a wingover but thats not what people were saying at the time.

I think I remember you or someone else posting similar at the time in the main thread.

Having seen some of those wingovers, it looked like it would take less effort to complete a roll than undo the wingover. If one did eventually happen it's not surprising.

Im pretty sure thats what happened at high altitude the risk would not be increased unfortunately post shorham it easy to see it as reckless.

Similar situation on the Saturday at RIAT though, when it popped over Swindon way before linking up with the Red Arrows.

There were rumours that they were going to do it before the end of flight, long ago, but seemed to go very quiet after the accident at Shoreham.

Which is precisely what happened on at least one occasion back in the 70's during an overseas RAF solo aero's display......it's the get out of jail free card manoeuvre for a wing-over that goes a bit wrong and past the 110deg point. The aircraft can do it without any big drama, it's just not cleared as a 'standard' and permitted display manoeuvre.

Reminds me of when I learned to glide as an air cadet (coolest bloody thing ever...solo in an aircraft before I'd passed my driving test)

Anyway, aeros were strictly banned, but one day I heard "I have control" from my instructor in the back seat, shortly before pitching her into a 100kt dive and saying "oh no...elevator jam!" and pulling a bloody great big loop. We levelled out and he said, "Hmmmm, seems OK now..."

Definitely looks like an aileron malfunction on 558 to me...
