I stopped a clutch change job yesterday before it started as the luk clutch kit provided was the self adjusting type which i have no experience of. It stated on the box to use the special tool for installation.
I understand the principle of them but is the tool purely to help seat the clutch properly or does it have another function?
Id be interested to hear from someone who has experience of fitting them, ive no issues with buying a tool but £100 is a little rich for something that may get used once.
The vehicle in questions is a 2011 2.0 tdi Transporter.
Thanks in advance.

I've done a few on Transits. The clutch cover plate should come to you fully adjusted out and is fitted as normal. The tool is only if the adjustment is lost or your fitting a new clutch with an old cover plate. With a bit of jiggery pokery you can adjust the clutch out without the tool assuming it's off the car.
