My front discs need replacing & as per the upgraded pads (Pagid RS29's) i've been using, i quite fancy upgrading the front discs (rears look almost as new).

A quick search throws up very little in the way of Aftermarket products so was hoping someone on here may be aware of options or better still is running aftermarket discs?

OEM fronts (Pagid) i can get from as low a price as £600 up to over £900 from a Stealer, but for that kind of money i'd hope to be able to source from Mfctrs. such as AP Racing or DBA & the like but i'm drawing a blank.

Get them skimmed and put some new pads on, if disc thickness is not too bad?

I know main dealers who have skimmed F10 M5 discs to save costs on the AUC prep and to be fair many people wouldnt have noticed.

I know it seems like a 'bodge job' but the latest brake lathes are awesome things and a well prepared disc yields little performance differences over new.

The front discs have many cracks emanating from the drill holes, so skimming won't work in this case.

I plan to fit the new front/rear OEM pads i have sat in the garage when i replace the front discs & keep the Pagid RS29's for next years track activity. Hate the idea of spending £600 on a set of OEM front discs when i'm sure their must be better aftermarket options available.

Once import Duty & Tax etc. is factored in, are these not more expensive than the OEM discs direct from BMW? Anyone used them on an F10 M5 as i've never heard of them so would be concerned being on track with unknown parts.

Hmm, not sure. It sounds a bit gimmicky to me personally.

Who makes the F10 M5 discs, is it Zimmerman?

No direct experience with the F10, but with past M cars have found little better than genuine BMW items, unless you are doing a total change to a different caliper/bigger disc type affair, so not really sure aftermarket is going to be an upgrade in this case, but more a case of perhaps finding a cheaper equal. Even I can get the genuine items for less than £650 a pair, so would maybe go this route.

As long as the cracks are not excessive and related only to the drill holes, I think it is a normal characteristic of drilled discs, and would not stop them from being skimmed?

Whilst i agree this is quite normal for drilled discs, the cracks are getting very prominent due to mucho track fun & i'll be putting new pads (will be the 3rd set) onto the car in a couple of weeks so is a good time to replace the discs. I'm sure they've more life left in them but i intend to run her at VMAX in March & would rather do that with fresh discs.

I'm assuming these are the discs you refer to?

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/BMW_M5_4.4_2014/...

Are they equivalent to OEM, better or worse? I was told by BMW that the OEM pads are Pagid (not the best quality Pagid's unfortunately) so are the discs also Pagid as i'd assume if this is the case that they only manufacture one variant that could be fitted to the F10 M5 so would basically be the OEM discs?

I was more saying that aftermarket replacements of the same size are rarely an actual upgrade on the BMW genuine item. Some maybe equal to at a cheaper price , but I think you'll be hard pushed to find something that's actually markedly better for less money than genuine. That's in most cases, as I say, no direct experience with an F10. I could get genuine discs at £650 a pair , so would be tempted to stick to genuine in this cases if aftermarket stuff is around that price.
