Hi all,

After test driving an S2 Exige, and becoming totally smitten with it, I was warned by some people that it would depreciate like mad if I got a new one.

From checking out auto-trader and the like, this doesn't seem to be the case (I don't think there are enough old S2's about yet).

Question is, what would an Exige (with the touring pack) be worth after say 12-18 months, 18k miles?

I have been keeping a keen eye on the second hand prices and they dont seem to have dropped much at all.

They obviously will come down but will always hold a fair amount of their value like the S1 Exige.

Depends how many miles you do and whether you decide to track it to within an inch of its life.

Hi there,

Well if they do I don't know about it, you still see S1 exige's selling for over £22,000 I to keep a eye on the second hand price's and both the 111R and the exige don't fair badly at all

Speak to Mustard or one of the other guy's that sell car's

I don't think its safe to compare S1 Exige prices with S2 Exige prices. The s1 version was much more separated from the base model than the s2 iterations.

Personally I reckon they'll track 111R prices pretty closely, so best bet is to watch them if there aren't many exiges on sale to track in the classifieds.

Lots of Exiges coiming on to the market loaded so costing nearer 40k than 30 and a bit. If your looking to wittness the depreciation consider the cost when new v's the cost secondhand.

I think when the dealers hold less demo stock they will fall quicker as they are more closely related to the 111R.

A fully loaded Exige isn't nearer 40k than 30k. You can just about hit 35k, and I've heard people are getting the odd options as a freebee now.

First year depreciation is always pretty savage on cars whatever.

Dan JCT 600 have just sold a RHD Motorsport S2 Exige (Euro spec), 500 miles for £43k - original owner forked out £46k for it.. Like all cars - load on dem extras and watch that price rise

Reckon S2 Exige will take big early hit, then depreciate slowly until they bottom out - bit like all Lotuses really. Worrying bit is that quite a few low mileage S2s about - some new owners offloading early? - more on the market = lower prices....

The motorsport exige can't be compared to a standard car, so thats no use as a guide!

Just an Exige with optional extras - so why not?

Yes the Motorsport one is totally different as it has a full cage and plumbed in extinguisher, battery & fuel cut offs etc.

The cheapest second hand one I have heard about is a Chrome Orange ex Demo car that was also used on 5th Gear and given a thorough screwing by Tiff Nedell which went for £27K

Point I'm making is that you can fully load, from Lotus, an S2 Exige and it can cost you £46k plus.

Thats like saying you can judge 911 residuals by spending 250k on an RSR race car and looking at its depreciation.

Anyway if you spec it to 46k, you are buying the Exige for whatever and then paying Lotus Motorsport to customise it. Its apples & bananas!

Why, both the Exige S1 and S2 are an Elise with the same perormance parts and both have different clams.
As for the engine ,yes the 111r/Exige have the same Toyota 190bhp but The standard S1 Exige had less bhp than the Elise S1 sport 190 with the same VHPD Rover K.

Because the S2 Exige is really just a slightly tarted up 111R. The separation between a standard s1 and an s1 Exige is much larger. They only sold about 5 s1 190s, so they are hardly relevant and they cost an absolute fortune.

Put it this way. 3.5 year old Exiges are going for >6k more that similar aged Elises. You won't see that spread on the new cars.

mmmm tarted up 111R
Sorry but the S1 Exige has had the same parts changed as the S2, even if the S1 susspension is a bit stiffer.
Both cars have the same engine as the Elise.
Also if you wanted to turn an 111R into an Exige then the parts alone are about 15k with bodywork.

Where did you get this from? People are doing it sans bodywork for loads less.

The Exige is basically a 111R coupe. S1 exige is a million miles away from a standard S1 - both in performance and original purchase price, unlike the S2 Exige vs 111R which performs almost identically and costs only a couple of £k more.

Do you own one by any chance? It really is just a tarted up 111R.

Then again an S1 Exige was a tarted up S1, but it was more distinct. Which is why it cost about 15k more than an s1. The S2 Exige spread is 2k... Hmm about the cost of the suspension/wheel upgrades aftermarket.

They are great cars, but you are deluded if you think S1 vs S1 Exige is anything like 111R vs S2 Exige.

Maybe the S1 to S1 Exige gap is more like the S2 111S to S2 Exige gap? And hence the way to view the 111R is therefore more of a de-tarted Exige!? Or am I just saying the same thing a different way!

A full list of Lotus genuine parts was posted on i think SELOC, it included all new susspension+wheels/tyres+new front and rear Exige hand made clams+Exige hardtop+other body parts and brackets.
The price was without fitting.
Why was the S1 177bhp Exige a million miles away from a S1 elise 160?
also its about 3-4 more for the Exige over a same spec Elise.

u cant really compare. the s1 exige should be compared to the s1 sport190 track car not the s1 elise the 111r is basically the s2 version of the sport190 same power but more comforts an more road orientated as the exige is the track car (lotus didnt want two model overlap i.e sport190 track car an exige track car like they had for the s1 make's more sence to have a high perf road car and track car than 2 hig perf track specials)if ur looking at it from a comparison to s1 elise to exige then u should do the same for the series 2 an compare it to the base s2 not the 111r range topper which is although a quite difrent car to the s1sport190 in model terms its sits at the top of the elise range like the old car did
