My car is 4 years old now and so far the alloys have suffered 4 cracks, one was replaced under warranty and the others required a weld.

It's really getting on my nerves now and want opinions on whether anyone else has experienced this and what the main dealer did about it.

I'm booked in for a service next Friday so obviously I'll mention it then, but any ideas?

I had wheels cracking on a Volvo V70R.

It had 18" wheels and very low profile tyres.

I spoke to the dealer at the time. I live in Sheffield and there are lots of pot holes. There is insufficient rubber to prevent wheels cracking was their opinion. To be honest I had to agree. It was not a fault.

I had the cracks welded and had no further problems.

Are you running 19's?

I did 70,000 miles in a C63 running 18's without a single issue.

Within 5 months of running an E63 on 19's I had a cracked wheel.

Just gone back to a C63 and back on 18's again.

I had both of the 19" rear wheels (the matt black ones with silver rim) on my C63 crack and weld repaired.

To be fair, after the repair they have been OK for a year or so - currently they are sat in my garage as I have 19" 507 wheels on there instead now - no problems thus far with these but have had both new-ish rear tyres replaced due to nail punctures.....
