Our local camera club use Picturk for the in-house competitions but are having trouble getting judges from outside the club who will actually judge using it.

Are any of the rest of you in clubs who use Picturk (or similar) and if so where are you finding the judges from?

Is there a list of judges who will judge remotely???

Does your camera club belong to a higher body? For example in Bracknell, we belong to the Southern Counties Photographic Federation (for clubs in the South). They may be able to help with judges.

I was a judge in a photo comp a couple of years ago. They sent over the shortlisted JPGs and I marked/commented on them by e-mail. Then they just add up the scores. Happy to help in this way if you want another one.

The club is affiliated to the SACC but the number of people who are willing / able to judge is very small and it ends up with the same half-dozen or so judges every year and it's become monotonous

Picturk.com is the site the club are using at present and everyone entering the competition uploads their entries to there and the judge is given the relevant access to view the image, score out of 100 and leave a brief comment on each image

I'll certainly pass contact info for anyone on here interested in judging to the lady who organises the competitions

You would need to be able to complete the judging in a 2 week window but generally that's not been an issue for judges who've done it before

If anyone has a favourite topic they'd like to judge them post it and it may be possible to get a macro expert to judge in their field of expertise etc

Oh and judges do get paid, not a lot as the club are small with limited funds, but you will get €40 to €50 for your troubles

Perhaps if a panel of judges were available they'd get a regular gig off many clubs, might be a handy extra few bob

Thanks lads.

I've passed your details on.

The remote judging is still in it's infancy so there's still a bit of figuring out to be done in-club (and a few die-hards to be convinced it's a real alternative to someone turning up on the night) but I'd say you could be getting a call / email at some stage.
