Right, after a bit of research, learnt that one of the ways that power can be made is to create a vacuum within the engine which would reduce the internal resistance. So, you'd need an air pump, an AC system has an air pump which is driven off of the engine, so in theory could it be used to create the internal vacuum?

You could just fit a positive crankcase ventilation system....

OK, enlighten us, how does a vacuum in the engine help power output?

Decreases internal resistance by removing the slight pressure created by the piston moving down

By how much ? would be interested how you measure it and you will lose more driving the vacpump

There's another site that I read but I can't find that compared power output to engine internal pressure (was on drag engine I think) and it made about 5% of power

I have to agree with (at least) the sentiment of others above.

Whilst it may help to some very small degree the fact that the pump takes power to drive it will mean the gains are going to be minimal & whilst it may seem to be usefull on a 1000hp drag engine adding 5% and using 10hp (for arguments sake) to drive it, when it uses 10hp to drive it & gives 5% on a 200hp engine that means no gain.

Obviously the numbers I have used are just simple round numbers & may not be typical or accurate, and have been used for simplicity, this was to demonstrate my thoughts, not to give an accurate assessment.

Fair enough, just thought it would be cheaper to use an AC pump as its already built into the engine

This is normally done as a bit of a by product of a dry sump system and is a bonus for a race engine. The A/C compressor is a bit of a non starter as the compressor is lubricated by oil in the air con system and wouldn't be in you set up. Nice idea but a non starter.

Oh well, was a nice idea to start with

Why not use the Vizard evacupan system to create the vacuum? It used the exhaust to create a pressure drop using the Bernoulli effect. No moving parts, no losses through drive belts.

Sounds interesting, I'll take a look into it

Looks good, I might get one for my next engine build
