I have one of the wee Aldi compressors, just out of warranty alas. OK a bit puny but for what I require it'll do albeit it will have to work hard (sanding down a car). Anyway........
It suddenly won't go up to pressure maxing out at 3.5 bar, and also won't shut off. Have checked pressure relief valve, drained condensate from tank, removed and changed oil (it was over full and a bit black). No joy...... However I have noticed a fair amount of air escaping from the oil filler hole, and suspect this may be where the problem lies. What could this be and what should I look at? Not worth putting in to an engineer, but if I can fix it myself then all well and good

Suspect the rings have gone. Cheap compressors are not designed to run air tools for any length of time. The air is getting past the rings and blowing out of the oil filler.

Doubt you will be able to get the parts to fix it.

I found a 2001 British made 35cfm 300lit compressor on ebay. Hardly used but 3 phase. It will run my sand blaster cabinet and any of my other air tools.

It will last me out and I can get the bits for it (if needed).

I would say that I doubt it is a good idea to buy a budget used compressor from ebay though!

I am fortunate that I have a 3 phase supply as machines are much cheaper s/h due to reduced demand.
