What Camera - Around about £150?
Discussion
Hi All,
I've off to the states in a few weeks and I want get a new digital camera.
Its needs to be compact and good at taking pictures at night. (eg. In pubs).
The camera I had in mind was the Casio Exilim EX-Z40 which is about £140 in the states.
However there are some mixed reviews on the web about its picture quality.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I had the 3MP version given to me as a Christmas present last year. The good bits - it's small, light, battery life is impressive, decent sized LCD screen. The not so good bits - the focussing is slow and the picture quality isn't particularly sharp, writting to the card takes too long.
It's worth pointing out that this is the only compact digital I have used so I have nothing to compare to, other than my 300D. I will accept that my view could be skewed as I'm not really comparing apples with apples.
Oh and I should say thanks, you;ve just reminded me that I still have this camera, it'll be on eBay later today!

Ok the other one that appeals is the Pentax Optio S5i which I can get for £160 in the states (Off there at the end of March)
www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentaxs5i/page9.asp - The review here says it suffers some focus problems in low light but my mate has one and the quality seems to be fairly reasonable.

www.dpreview.com is a good digital camera review site with galleries showing examples taken using the different cameras. There's no 'search by price' option so you'll have to look up any cameras reccomended individually.

Prompted me to check for focus issues in lowish light with my S5i and I have to say that, other than appreciating one some of the special presets are likely to do - especially partrait mode which will tend to soften the primary target area but seems to keep fore and background sharp - the few times I have used it in 'pub' type environments it has produced some excellent results and a few odd things that I can't actually remember taking!
Quite arty though! Can't comment on the Canon's I'm afraid.
hold on, the "Ixus IIs" is a Powershot SD110. i think there was an "Ixus 11" previously.
