Cwc G10 - Opinions
Discussion
Their prices have gone up quite a lot over the past few years because every walt and his dog seems to want one, and every other one seems to get spuriously linked to some conflict or other. Which isn't hard seeing as we've had some sort of scuffle going on somewhere for most of the past 20 years or so!
It's a shame because they're capable and well made watches, with good stainless cases and quality movements, that you used to be able to get for a song.
eta: Unlike the MWC and similar copies, which should be given away with conrflakes.

This thread shows shows the differences between a CWC and a cheaper (MWC) copy. It is comparing the diver rather than the G10, but it gives you an idea.

The fixed bars that retain the strap mean strap choices are limited. That's the problem I have with my CWC diver at the moment, but at least I know there is no chance of losing it.

I've got one, NSN is 0552/6645-99-541-5317, and it's stamped for 1988.
It's back on my wrist right now, and I'm trying to establish whether or not it can be trusted to keep time. It spent a long while (while I flirted with various Citizen and G-Shock alternatives) without a battery, and last year had new contacts (I think that's what I paid for, anyway). Then I put it back in a drawer, and it was losing time again. Tonight, I whipped out the battery, gently 'adjusted' the small springs on the battery cover, and put it back together. In about 6 hours it is 2 seconds ahead of when I set it, compared with the family PC. No idea how accurate the PC is though?
I'm going to give it a chance to prove itself, before giving 'Variomatic' of this parish, or maybe a local watchmaker, a buzz. But mine hasn't been all that reliable for some considerable time now. And it's been with me through thick and thin (and a conflict or two
) for over 20 years, so I'm quite attached to it. I used to issue them to other soldiers too. They were a loan item, requiring return when a soldier 'cleared' out of the unit on posting. Many were written off due to damage or internal failure, and replaced with new stock, so I never really considered them to be worth spending a great deal of money on. As I recall, the MOD's price (if you "lost" one, and needed to pay for it) was somewhere in the region of £89 at the time I was running the account, but that would be reduced in accordance with the regulations so no squaddy ever paid full whack for one. Nudge-nudge.

Regarding the timekeeping on yours, gaining at that rate is almost certainly your PC clock running slow rather than the watch running fast.
Try synching two laptops on the same connection with the same internet time server at the same time and you'll find they can disagree by 4 or 5 seconds immediately afterwards. And PC clocks can easily be 10 or more seconds per day out on their un-synched rates because they were only ever really there for datestamping files, where internal consistency matters more than absolute rate and nearest minute is usually good enough.
The internet is good for lots of things but a precision time reference ain't one of them

I use http://time.is/London
It is accurate to the Radio 4 time signal.
Surely good enough for setting and checking personal timepieces?
