Service discount for older Porsche's been stopped?

Just booked my 996 C4S into OPC Reading for a major service. The price they quoted was double what I paid last time for the same service. Apparently two weeks ago all prices went up and Porsche will no longer offer discounted service for older cars. The website hasn't been updated yet so the older prices are still there. OPC Reading agreed to honor the price the website is showing for now but that will be updated soon. By comparison, the old price for the major service is £395. The new price is £695.

This change will drive all older cars back to indi's.

Would certainly do so for me. Their lower prices actually beat my closest decent independent Porsche specialist.

But it is not just the cost. My local OPC has no one with any experience of 993s. And when I had a 3.2 they rang my local indi to ask how to fix a specific problem. I am sure that there are some OPCs who retain a few experience people but last 993s were delivered 18 years ago, the last 3.2s 26 years. Experienced mechanics would now probably be in their mid 50s for 993s and easy 60s for 3.2s. Many had chosen to leave and work with indies or have retired. During that time the art of 'spanner monkeying' seems to have changed . Easier (for them) to replace entire components than fix individual smaller problems.

I see absolutely no benefit in taking a 'classic' to an OPC for anything these days - particularly so if they have hiked up their prices.

Indy for me however then you have to find a good one.
