Long term project but have been sorting manifolds and exhaust. Whilst in the process put hand under the centre of the gearbox where it joins together and felt oil. Not enough to have caused a drip, but obvioulsy slight seep through the gasket. Do you think this would resolve itself once the car is running, heat and expansion etc?

Is it definitely coming from the gearbox? Is it the same colour oil as in the gearbox (some are red). Could be coming from a lot of places and finding its way back there - sump, rocker cover, valley gasket.....Just need to clean it all up and check again.

Usual spot for leaking is around gear selector shaft on remote housing to gear box.

Eventually this will rot the remote bushes.

Hi - should have said, long term rebuild, no oil in engine except cylinders. Body off, put engine and gearbox back into chassis early summer, filled gearbox with Mobil 1, which forum seemed to suggest was better than ATF, so seepage definatly from base of the central gasket

Not sure that it will cure itself. All the bolts correctly torqued? Did you use any sealant on the gasket faces (was any recomended?)
