991.2 driving impressions
Discussion
First (mini) review I've seen of anyone that's actually driven it, Henry Catchpole (of Evo) certainly liked it: http://youtu.be/Ft6MbJsH83Q

I thought the exhaust pipes were in the middle, in that vid they are either side of the number plate.
Maybe I am imagining it.
I quite like the look of it though, like the 991.1 range it looks a really smooth and clean design.
Those are the standard exhausts in the vid. The optional sports exhaust exits in the middle.Maybe I am imagining it.

I'm struggling to think of the last time a motoring hack had anything bad to say about Porsche or Ferrari. Until the new model comes out when previously unmentioned issues are miraculously fixed and portrayed as a major breakthrough.
They may as well be reviewing a new laptop or operating system. Yawn.

Porsche has a successful formula.
Pretty much each new generation of the '911' has had advances/developments/improvements over the outgoing model, despite protestations from traditionalists.
And, Porsche are really clever - always having a new 'headline' model to tempt customers to trade up. Those GTSs are already out of date
I'm sure, like the 991.1, it will be the best in class, but for me, 911 ownership would not be complete without a classic aircooled model parked next to it in the garage

Given the significant regard I hold for Henry's opinion, these first impressions are distinctly positive.
Porsche yet again advances the 911...this time even overcoming (shock/horror) a turbo in the Carrera.
Noise. Enhanced.
Handling. Advanced.
Engine. Lively.
Great to see the evolution of an automotive hallmark continue aplomb
(and yes..this is counter to the negative nellies...but ffs...celebrating achievement aint a bad thing...)

Its hype hype hype until the next model comes out then a dose of reality.
Then back to hype when its firmly in the used market.

It is quite remarkable that Porsche always seems to be able to trump the previous generation with some sort of perk. Porsche yet again advances the 911...this time even overcoming (shock/horror) a turbo in the Carrera.

In the case of the 991.1 it was the wider front axle and RWS where applicable, in the case of the 991.2 many reviewers report that the steering is noticeably improved. There's no denying hat the 'ring times are also rather impressive. His comment on the sound was interesting because the shot following it did have hints of an aircooled engine to it.

Nail on head. A pre-73 car for the sunny weekends and a current-gen C2S as a daily hack would suit me just fine.Pretty much each new generation of the '911' has had advances/developments/improvements over the outgoing model, despite protestations from traditionalists.

Are my ears broken? The engine just sounded like a s
t version of the 991.1 - flatter, no mechanical noise, all exhaust rather than induction sound, less character and no crescendo (despite what Catchpole says).
I also read the Autocar mini-review in disbelief - everything objective that it says can be summarised as "worse than the 991.1" (engine has less character, worse throttle response, etc) but they still fawn over it.
Porsche could put a diesel V8 in the 911 and it would still be called an improvement.

Plenty of reviews out now (where is yours, PH??!)
Many of them very positive:

Evo - http://www.evo.co.uk/porsche/911-carrera/16923/wat...
What Car - http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/porsche/911/2016-p...
AutoExpress - http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/porsche/911/93392/por...
Some less convinced:
Car - http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/porsche/p...
TopGear magazine - http://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/911-carrera-s-2...
Overall it looks like the argument is being won by the positive camp. Yes the 991.2 might sound a smidge less ferocious than the 991.1, but it more than makes up for that through the added performance, torque profile, steering feel and chassis setup.
