Body off 400SE
Discussion
Quick question, how many bolts hold a 400SE body to chassis
So far I have found
2 x at the very front
2 x engine bay
6 x under the drivers/passengers side 3 per side
2 at the rear through the boot
Have I missed any and once they are removed can I raise the body an inch ?
Thanks
Hamish

Er... I thought the sills wrapped underneath on the 400SE shell? So you wouldn't be able to lift it anyway... assuming you haven't chopped the sills already of course.
Edit: In fact if you haven't, there are some more bolts under there. You'll also need the seatbelts out...

I think its 4 per side, 1 on each plate and 2 at the end of each outrigger next to the rear tie bar
Hamish,
I have full information at home but am away on business until Wednesday so cannot access it at present.
Meantime from memory (on my car) there are the following
2 through the round tube at front - near radiator
2 in the engine bay - small plates near near oil filter and opposite
3 along each side outrigger - 1 at front footwell, 1 at seat belt mount, and 1 behind trim at rear quarter where the base of the seatbelt/roof bar supporting tube bolts through the body to the chassis. (there may be two in this location - I do not remember exactly)
2 each side at mounting plates on main chassis tubes next to transmission tunnel. One at front of footwell and one near front of seat
2 through floor of boot.
The inner seat belt mount on the tunnel also bolts through the body to the chassis with distance pieces and sealer sticking all together.
Fuel piping is tied to o/s chassis outrigger and also clipped inside front wheel arch so needs to be released.
Handbrake cable, wiring to fuel tank sender unit, speedometer cable, hoses etc all need to be disconnected as appropriate depending on height body is to be lifted.
Rubber "shims" between body and chassis can stick in position, however once all bolts and other connections removed body should come free easily.
e-mail me via my profile and we can arrange to have a chat or meet up if you wish. I note you are in Grampian, I am near Glasgow.
Are you going to Cameron House on Friday this week?

Hamish,
If you need an extra pair of hands for any lifting jobs I'd be happy to offer some assistance. I'm in Stonehaven. Email me thru my profile if you need me.
Pete
Thanks Pete, I am just raising the car a couple of inches to inspect and waxoyl. However if horrors are revealed I maybe in touch.
Thanks again
Hamish
