ferrari 488,so we have had motor trend,car,evo and now autocar and all with vastly different results.

Autocar is pants these days. I don't read it anymore it is rubbish You only have to read their road tests. Areas for improvement on a car test usually include cr*p like make the cup holders bigger!

there were 5 judges, and one of them didn't like the Cayman at all (unlike the other 4) thus throwing out a strange result - with respect how a 488 GTB can be considered a superior drivers car to the GT3 RS or GT4 is utterly beyond me. and the Aerial Nomad ? great fun, but it's not a serious car is it. I think only Matt Prior and Andrew Frankel have any credibility on that magazine currently.

Prior is worth reading. The rest are tits who obsess about soft plastics and mpgs. Too fat and lazy to change gear, half of them, so want diesel autos even in "sports" cars.

According to Autocar your best bet for a track day in the pissing rain is an Ariel Nomad. Lucky we are all allowed our own opinion as I think I'd choose something else.

Magazines are there to make money and stand out from the others in the newsagent

...so I can imagine that the top 3 cars of the moment - 488, RS, 675, GT4 - can each be justified as the best using whatever logic...so as a magazine I am wonder if they ask themselves what would create a bit of noise? Evo probably said lets have the young upstart on the front cover, that will get a few tongues wagging, Autocar about throwing in a Nomad in there and demoting the GT4, ...another will think a 'british first' is a good angle, another that the RS is best track car out there...etc, etc

At the end of the day there is no 'right' answer anyway - let's be honest there is a winner here for all pockets and people - we on this forum probably wouldn't agree on the same top 3 either

For me, best road car I have driven this year is the 675LT, Track car RS, and by a massive margin, GT4 good fun car, but not the same planet as the other 2.....

the thing is..its not really about 'the best' its about what is your favourite.As much as the mclaren and ferrari are wonderful I have zero desire to own either as unless I live next to a track which I don't ,I'm not sure how much I can use them on the road.

That sounds right...the GT4 by being 1/3 of the value of the other two is then the best 'sub £X' car (where X is some number between £110k-£300k)

On the PEC RS drive, the GT4 was the drive of the day for me, even in very wet conditions, felt like an old friend within the 1st 100mts....

675 was designed as a road car 1st, that's why it gets my vote for a road car, that just happens to be very fast on track also.

RS, is really a track car....

I wouldn't dismiss this result too lightly. The 488 is a damn good car. The performance after getting out of the Speciale is shattering. Just because we prefer one brand doesn't make the others all rubbish.

I guess it should be for £200k. Amazing really a £75k GT4 is mentioned in the same conversation yet alone beating it or running it a close second depending on whose opinion you welcome. Incredible Pursche has built such a car at this price point

Hi D totally agree . Shared a friends RS drive then had my own GT4 drive last week in wet conditions and the car was glued to the circuit even with sport setting on.
Good advice on this car many tks gonna be keeper this one hope you're enjoying yours

PS likewise prefer Sutcliffe reviews along with Meaden snd Harris for vids.
These guys earning a living though so they must be doing something right

RS needs to be on track to show its true colours, GT4 reminded me of 64RS from a fun interaction point, mine arrives in about 7 days, had good drive in friends last week, so well balanced when pushing on...

That is precisely my thinking.

In fairness a different dynamic, but the GT4 has that small car chuckabilty and the "hard as nails" character of the 964RS ... I adore mine.

I sold my 964RS Clubsport because it was a hub carrier failure waiting to happen -- and the value --- the GT4 is a 21st century gritty track car with everyday functionality ... and affordable to risk on track.

Even if tough to replace without a sizeable premium.

On the the other hand, look at the premium on the GT3 RS

That Steve Cropley guy has somehow made a career out of keeping a diary of how many press freebies he attends (at least one a day). Rarely mentions cars at all.

Why anyone would find that interesting is beyond me.

Bit like the rest of the magazine, to be honest.....
