I'm implementing a new IT system for a manufacturing client (order management, CRM, production management, invoicing, stock control etc) and one of the areas they are looking to improve their existing system is stock control and inventory management. They've asked me to look in to possible RFID solutions whereby they can stick a tag on the pallets of product as they manufacture it and use that as a unique identifier. They need a simple way to perform stock taking (eg waving a reader somewhere near each pallet), log breakages, check inventory when loaded on to a lorry for delivery, etc.

Whatever the hardware solution is, needs to be robust, idiot-proof and weatherproof (think dusty dirty builders yard with tons of stock stacked on paletts rather than clinically clean warehouse with pick-bins).

RFID tagging is not an area of my expertise so I'm wondering if the assembled PH business brains can help steer me in the right direction here. Any advice much appreciated.
