Griff production numbers

Does anyone know a definative figure? Having consulted the bible it says 716 for precats, but the 500 figure is an educated guesstimate. Any ideas?

I think that the number of Griffs produced is one of those mysterious facts in the universe that are even less well understood than string theory.

If Steve Heath doesn't know, probably nobody does!

Yep, this is one of those things you can argue for hours, however the three different published figures as quoted from Roger Shackletons 'The Griffith Story' as follows;

4.0ltr = 679
4.3BV = 25
4.5BV = 12
500 = 1,629
500SE = 100

From the same source, alternative figures quoted by Production Director Mike Penny;

4.xltr series 625
500 series 1,640

And finally, from Neil Anderson himself:

Total production run = 2,334

Other published figures vary to the above

So, to answer you question,somewhere between 1600 - 1700 500's.

Is anyone keeping track of how many are actually left on the road in one piece... dvla maybe? I've heard recent horror stories of winter claiming a number of 500's....

Someone fancing asking the DVLA, someone in the S forum did, have mailed them as they said they got figures of other TVR's but waiting for a response.

I have a copy of the spreadsheet he was sent from the DVLA if you are interested?
It shows 1105 still on their record, it seems a little low.

Apparently in September 1105 Griffiths where Registered numbers are as below(doesnt say what size engine)

Which is well down on the estimate in the bible of 2,445 Griffiths made of course soemof hat are estimates. Of course a few have been exported but then that means a fair few have gone gone gone. except for teh few race ones which I guess arent registered ( 3 maybe)

ps Chimps show 4101 registered to 5,767(est.) made.


edited in 1992 358 car swith no model text where made 1st registered.
and only 21 Cerbs where registered at all so I would take these figure with a pinch of salt.

Don't know, I wondered that, assume the split was within the 4.0ltr number,about half and half. I'm sure I read somewhere there were around 300 4.0ltr cars.
To further complicate things, what about the number of 4.0ltr cars with the factory gas flowed head option?

Some idiot before Xmas crashed through my garage door and smashed by Griff 500 (1994) front and back.

Currently being repaired at TVR Body Shop, well over £10k of damage, lucky not written off which says a lot for residuals.

I assume the 679 figure comprises of both 4.0 & 4.3, i believe approx 50% of each.

We...as in the TVRCC...already do.

But the accuracy of the info can only as good as that supplied by those owners who care to tell us.
