DSG repair

My wife's A3 has developed a whine from the transmission which is either diff of one of the mainshaft bearings. Audis solution is to replace the transmission at a cost of £6000 which is bonkers, they tell me that the boxes cannot be repaired which is stupefying when you consider the cost of replacement.

Can anyone advise WRT a reputable company who can repair a DSG gearbox.
