Hi,

I'm after a dsl wireless router. It needs to have an ethernet port so I can connect my NTL connection to it.

Any suggestions? I had a NetGear one at uni but apparently thats broken according to my housemates after just a year. It would be usefull to have a couple of ethernet ports on the back of it as well.

The budget is a max of £100.

This one looks like my best bet at the moment:

Netgear DG834G is the most popular one in the UK I reckon...and your old Netgear has a 2 or 3 yr warranty anyway - just ring em up and they will send you a new one

I've got a Netgear DG834G and it works really well. There are some bundle packages about at the moment too where you get a free USB wireless adaptor or PCI card.

I've borrowed one of these from a guy at work but it won't work as i've got an NTL connection with uses CAT5 cable.

Yup, thats what I've got here. Not managed to plug it in yet, being a bit of a numptie in the technical department I've yet to work out how to do it..

I'll be reading the manual shortly, rather than just pluggging it in and playing with it. Need to sort out the wep encryption to hook it into the work's vpn. Or something like that

Another vote for the Netgear DG834G which came with a wireless card for my laptop. I've got two pcs hardwired into it and two using wireless. Unbelievably easy to set up due to the very clear instructions.

Avoid SMC. Lots of problems with wireless cards. Hours spent on the phone & balance of computer upset by changes which did no good. Switched to Netgear card with no problems. Have spent much of Sunday restoring functions.

The problem with this one (I have one sitting on my desk) is that it won't take the CAT5 cable from my NTL Modem. It seems to be a different connector.

There is a version of the DG834G that is set up to work with a set top NTL cable modem thing.

A quick look around the Netgear site should come up with the goods. Its not the ADSL version but what they call a 'broadband router' I think.

I have the DG834G and its been faultless, highly recommended gear.

the dg834g has an ADSL modem built in - you cant plug it into another cable modem. You need a router without a modem built in if you are on NTL - like the Netgear WGR614
