Something I have been reading a little bit about is the attitudes of LHD in Japan. On Ferrari and Porsche its seen as "the way it was designed" so to speak so most collectors will seek out LHD over RHD even though they are a RHD country...

In the UK that (IME) is not the opinion of most. LHD are always seen as "imports" and worth about 20-30% less where a RHD is also available.

What does the PH massive think? Is LHD on say Ferrari or Lamborghini a massive turn off?

I have owned a LHD car before and tbh it was not that bad on UK roads and there was no RHD variant so it was the only option.

Now I am looking at c.20 year old Italian cars and there are both options out there.

Do we think the attitudes in the UK might change at some point or do those RHD cars command a genuine premium as they are much rarer and thus more in demand but only here in the UK..

Italian cars of a certain age were invariably created by designers who didn't let the RHD market distract them. The Japanese are right.

As to values, it's a win-win. If they are cheaper, you get a bargain and something that was properly designed for the LH seating position.

I've driven both configs extensively in both the UK and the continent (day to day living, not just for hols). I can honestly say I prefer LHD, especially in a manual. A gated sports car gear stick belongs in the right hand if you're right handed, as do all the key console controls. It's just more natural.

Come to think of it, I even drove a fairly modern Alfa recently as a courtesy car and it clearly had LHD ergonomics. I forget which one it was now, but the centre console was so clearly set up for LHD.

I saw a LHD to RHD conversion was for sale recently, god knows how much that cost to do!
