My college has blocked Pistonheads!! They seem happy enough to let people look at dodgy sites, but Pistonheads...no, blocked
I didn't look at it that often...! They do an Automotive Engineering FD there, aswell. So glad they don't block sites that might actually be useful to their students.

Your controller of computers isn't a lentilist or numpty are they?
I think they took the decision a while ago to sod the students...all they're worried about is making the college look good to people on the outside.
The totty's good, though.

at least you have your prioritys

OK.....the geeky response. Yes there is a backdoor to Pistonheads and it's quite simple....i use it at work!
You need to go through a proxy. That is to say, you log onto Pistonheads through another computer somewhere else in the world and then download the information from the computer.
Your uni then thinks your looking at something else and not Pistonheads.
Now i'm not saying this is strictly allowed but it cannot be traced (if done properly), and you get to use Pistonheads!
This is the little sucker you want: www.downloadpipe.com.au/preview72841.html
Just make sure you read your IT policy about installing software. Especially if your not 100% clued up on networking otherwise you could find yourself kicked out of college for messing with the network or using a program that isn't permitted.
(Oh and before someone mentions....it's not illegal!!!)

At the risk of hyjacking this thread, is this the sort of thing that will let me get around certain sites being blocked. Am working out in Dubai at the moment, and lots of sites I try and visit (no, not just the dodgy ones) get blocked as not suitable ("We apologize the site you are attempting to visit has been blocked due to its content being inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates").
I did try and do some research on proxies, and anon browsing, but most of what you try and locate is blocked, so am suffering a bit of a chicken/egg problem.
Thx,
Chris

Find out if port 22 is blocked, then get one of the comp sci students to give you a shell account on one of their mates' linux boxes in a studen house or at home. Log in and use links www.pistonheads.com for some text only surfage
