Hello all,

Do any of you have a recommended jacking system for getting the lifted safely off the garage floor without using the Murci lifting system. I have heard of 'Quickjack' in the UK and CJ Autos have a few products.

Oh nice to see a few cars at the NEC yesterday, fantastic display.

Morning,

I bought a Bradbury and a Laycock 4 post 3 tonne lift from ebay.

The car is a tight fit width wise and due to the limited garage height I can not stand up fully underneath it, but it allowed me to change steering rack gaiters and carry out a full service. A chair on casters would be ideal !

The only issue I have is that removing wheels can be tricky, neither have the wheels free attachment, it just takes some lateral thought. They fit into a 3m by 5m space and as I built the garage with a pitched roof, moving a few timbers allows me to park one above the other.

They go for about £400, and whilst initially quite daunting they are relatively easy to put together - had you not lived miles away I would happily come and help fit one !!

Hi Del, something I keep thinking about, could you share a picture of the cars double stacked, im a little worried about a) clearance to the roof and b) not sure I can jiggle the up and over door to correct place on a 4 poster but maybe on a 2 poster ..... £400 sounds like a miss type ?

Will do - if you look at the thread when I bought the car there is a picture of the Murci on the lift.

I worked the on following logic;

I built the garage with a pitched roof - 1 large a frame truss every 1m. The walls are 2.4m tall - purely as sheets of plywood are that height.

The tallest car that was going in the garage was 1.3m plus 10cm clearance, plus 20cm for the height of the lift ramps plus 1.2m for other car.

This gives 2.8m which clearly hits the bottom of the A frames. I simply cut out the horizontal part of the a frame and moved them up 50 - 60cm's which overall gave me the required height.

The A frame is still "tied" together and fixed to the top of the outer walls so slippage / spreading has not been an issue. I put some 4 x 4 fence posts under each corner of the ramp just in case. But in 2 years have had no issues with the lift or garage structure.

For 2 post you need a certain depth and quality of concrete which I am not sure I had, ideally I would have liked one of each.

Clearly I am limited on the height of car I can buy, but I have comfortably had a 90's Maserati Ghibli and a 550 stored without any clearance issues.

To work under the Merci I have about 140 - 150cm of head clearance.

Ah yes I remember now, you had the hindsight to fit a roller shutter door smile

Gents,

Many thanks for the replies and suggestions. I have never contemplated a four post lift but it may be a most economic option.

This is the sort of budget 4 post that may be more suitable than those wheel ramps, only £1,700 and would give you full access to the underside. You'll need to check that is wide enough for the mighty

I was looking at them Paul, but we use the garage as a thoroughfare and I don't think I can justify the cost to myself. I may go for a scissor lift. Lambo is at the start of the refurb, rear end removed, redesigning the rear light bracket and we have already started on the carob fibre repairs.
