brompton 3 speed hub - rebuild?

Is it possible / simple / easy to take a 3 speed hub apart, and rebuild it?

Having a bit of an issue with my 3 speed brompton, wondering if it is something I can do or should I leave it with the shop?

It is 4 years and about 4000 miles old!

Is it a Sturmey Archer one? If so have you adjusted the pull cable correctly? That's far easier than rebuilding one

Yes - I have done that more times than I care to remember!

I have an issue where it seems to want to be a fixed wheel? If you stop pedalling you can feel the hub trying to push the pedals forward?

In that case I think Sheldon Brown has a rebuild guide, I'd check it out and decide if you want to do it or not

what is the problem with it ? I used to rebuild these a lot in the 70s and 80s there is a cross shaped clutch that wears causing slip.

Not that complicated, I used to strip and clean the Sturmey on my Grifter after too many trips down the local stream, I would have been ten or eleven at that point. Having an engineering workshop in the garden helped though.

Taking out the adjuster chain and pouring oil into the hub can sometimes help.

4yrs and 4000 miles is nothing on one of these , what issues are you having?
