There's one thing

about PistonHeads that really makes me smile, and that's seeing someone post into a thread when they've have been members for years and yet have less than a hundred posts to their name.
Likewise, seeing a name you never really noticed before popping up, with maybe two or three years membership and several thousand posts behind them.
It never ceases to amaze me the dark little corners this community secures.

That'll be the likes of me then
To be honest I'm happy just reading other peoples rants.
I do try and help out with info when I can though.
I really like seeing people's personalities coming through in the posts. Reminds me that this is a community, not just a forum where people post stuff about cars. The fact that you're just typing words on a screen means it's like a diary - you can't see other people's reactions until they've replied. IMO you're more likely to get the truth out of someone on PH than the lie they might be living on some anonymous chat room.

I think we should start a new challenge, least posts per months membership - just imagine for one moment if everyone tried to win that award!

to be fair, when I first joined Pistonheads I was employed by the University as a box-shifter and someone to do the jobs the techies didn't want to do over the summer.
The problem was I'm the sort of person who just gets on with it, music in my ears and do the job. Meant that in reality the job they employed me to do over 2months was actually completed in a week or two and they then had to find me other stuff to do. Eventually after I taken telephone wires down, sorted all the PCs... they simply told me to sit in our "room" and they'd call me when required. PH was duly found and I started posting, ended up with nearly 4000 posts or something in the 2months as I had nothing better to do.
That was almost 1.5 years ago now...
After a while as well I also realised it isn't the wisest idea to give your opinion on every single subject and sometimes simply reading a thread can be interesting enough.
I find it quite strange how PH seems to follow real life as well, as I out in the real world I have a core group of friends whom I chat, socialise and what not with but while known am generally left alone by the popular groups. It's the same here with PH, I have my friends/people I socialise with and those I happily chat/email, but the masses always leave me be - for instance look at any of the threads "PH'ers I'd like to meet", "PH'er of the year"... and you'll find there is not one mention of me (nor many others like me).

Must be fairly guilty on this one - but still been to 2 Pistonfests and a BT&P
I like the fact that my 'net personality has a 3-way switch - I can go along with the flow and throw in a quip or two, I can reveal all about myself, or I can dig out the soapbox and raise hell from time to time, knowing full well that the only ammunition anyone's got against me is a keyboard

For example
Vixpy1 has been a member for nearly 3 years, yet I only ever recall seeing your posts in the last year, even though I am nearly a 2 year member.
Yet Mungo I noticed straight away because of the many Friday night (I meet thhis bierd righty, and I was a bit drunlk)
Everyone has an identity and I guess you have to post something memorable to be noticed in that sense. Else they are just a name on a forum.

Well i've managed just over 1 post per month over the last three years. What do I win?! Still read Pistonheads all the time though
James.
