How much (approx) does an air ambulance call out cost?

From memory, very rough figures for EC 135:-
Fuel - £200/hr
Maintenance - £400/hr
Cruise speed - approx 140mph
Raw cost per mile at those figures would be would be approx £4.30/mile, but obviously doesn't reflect in any way what the service costs to provide.
On top of that and just off the top of my head, you've got:-
Helicopter lease
Insurances
Storage/base costs
Pilot & 2 HEMS crew
HEMS controller
TO/landing fees (if airport based)
+ charity wages to fundraise
+ probably a lot more!
and without those being paid for the service doesn't get provided, which is why our air ambulance trust reckon each mission costs approx. £3,300.

The vast majority of the costs are fixed. Fuel is the biggest variable and I think the EC135 burns around 200kg or 250 litres per hour. Jet-A is less than 60p litre so c.£150 p/h.
The Air Ambulance Trusts generate a lot of public support, especially when they are seen in attendance at a life saving incident. Don't know how serious this matter was adjudged to be.

Less, and great for covering distance quickly, especially to/from the remote outlying Islands.But not recommended for landing in a town centre, by a roadside or on a hospital roof
