SMG Fault codes
Discussion
Newby to the E60 M5.
Had the car for a couple of months and love it. In that time it has thrown up 3 SMG faults whilst ticking over on the drive. Each time after a few seconds they went off.
Thought I would get it checked out and asked my local garage to read the fault codes.
Two faults have been reported, 4FAO clutch (activation position deviation) and 510E PLCD sensor, clutch position, redundant.
Talk to my reputable indy and he thinks its the clutch position sensor failing.
I have heard of clutch release bearings causing similar faults.
Can anyone advise me if the Indy is right?
Thanks

510D and 510E are guaranteed error codes for a failed/failing PLCD (clutch position sensor)Had the car for a couple of months and love it. In that time it has thrown up 3 SMG faults whilst ticking over on the drive. Each time after a few seconds they went off.

4FA0 accompanies and is caused by the 510D/510E. 4FA0 by itself can be indicative of clutch release bearing sticking, but in your case, the 510E is pointing at the cause.
Easy job, 2 hours labor.
