Has anyone changed to an aircraft/racing battery, in a smaller size?

Moving the battery to the boot and fitting a gel type battery is a simple move and gives the benifit of ample legroom.

I also fitted a battery cut off switch to reduce winter discharge and enable working on the electrics easier.

You can change to a gel type battery, which is quite a bit smaller:

Mine has also been moved to the boot, which gives so much more room in the passenger footwell.

You want something like this, (though I am not saying this one is the correct size)

Err, nothing yet! It's so far down the foot well you can't see it.

It is a low priority item on my to do list.

I have recently changed to an Odyssey PC928 AGM type battery. These can be mounted any way up and save about 2" of room compared to the original. I used the extra space to mount the ECU ahead of the battery. Also, because it is narrower there is room for the ratsnest of wiring on the R/H side. The only mod. on my install is to remove the A/C relay sockets and change the battery terminals.

Rats nest stripped out on mine as MS fitted with new wiring loom.

On the carpet front, the trimmers in Blackpool will make you a new mat to fit the space in matching carpet with edging. On my Christmas list smile
