Could some one clarify on a Porsche is there a 3 year no quibble cover from new or 2 years.
Problem is I booked cayenne into stealers today for a gearbox clonk, that was supposed to be fixed at its last visit when it was just at the 2 year period.
Never fixed issue so I finally get booked in and request a technican to road test it with me, sure as anything he says transfer box issue needs a new one.
Service guy comes out tells me would you like a price sir.
I say no thanks it's under warranty.
No sir there is only a 2 year warranty.
And sorry to tell you when it was booked in before we could not reproduce faul so we did a 4x4 recall instead. .

Thing is every OP stealer I have spoken with tells me all Porsches are sold with 3 year warranty.
I doubt you could sell a new car without one nowadays.

28000 mile 4.2s 2 years old car, with a manufactures fault in the transfer box that appears not to be covered by a 3 year warranty. Fix the thing a cool £3000 plus.
Anyone got any experience of warranty suddenly slashed by a third.

2 years from new is the standard, but at least since I bought my last one (Oct'13), the OPC insisted you pay the extra £700(?) for the 3rd year warranty.

Depends if you or other buyer managed to opt out of that scenario?

But one would imagine that if you booked it in for the fault to be diagnosed prior to the end of two years, you could argue the fault was present within the warranty period regardless of the OPC's ability to diagnose it?

The standard warranty is 3 years, and iirc has been since about 2010. If you check the Porsche GB website it confirms 3 years, reassurance from Porsche GB section. The third year is shown as part of the OTR price on the sales invoice.

The official response from the stealer.

The manufacturer's warranty on your vehicle (Chassis No
WP1ZZZ92ZELA65597) Ran from 18/07/2013 until 19/07/2015

As of the early part of this year 2015 Porsche have started to sell new vehicles with a 3 year manufacturer's warranty. Previous to that all new vehicles were sold with
2 years manufacturer's warranty with the option of a 3rd year extended warranty.

It would appear that Porsche did have a 3 year warranty went to a 2 year now they are back at 3 year.

How confusing for a customer.

I wonder if during there 2 year warranty period the salesman told any prospective buyers the warranty is a third off discount in dealers favour.

There was a two year warranty with year three being a cost option at the point of sale. It looked a bit like they added it on, despite being chargeable, unless the customer opted to delete it. Giving three years from the start sounds more honest.

I'm surprised the dealer didn't get in touch to extend the warranty. I've had emails and calls on mine.

Porsche, like many other manufacturers, provided a 3 year Warranty, which was actually 2 year 'manufacturers' plus 1 year extension (provided by an insurance company).

As insurance is covered under the FSA, there had to be an option not to take it, hence the reason it was costed separately - or so I understand

Not really that confusing:
1. Porsche previously had a 2 year warranty included in the OTR price - customers could add a third year warranty if desired
2. Porsche changed to offering a 3 year warranty included in the OTR price - customers could elect to have this removed to save money
3. Porsche now offer a 3 year warranty included in the OTR price with no option to reduce the price and remove the warranty

The original purchaser of your car (did you buy it from new?) must have elected to remove the 3rd year warranty. After 2 years you / they would have received various materials from Porsche giving the option to extend the warranty.

Having said that, if the fault was present within the 2 year period they should probably sort it out...

Are you using the same dealer who could not find the problem when in warranty?

Ask the dealer to put in a goodwill claim if its not covered under warrenty , if you dont ask they will just charge retail.

You should get a big discount considering its only just out of the "2year" warrenty .

Also ask to make a complaint as you had brought the vehicle in with this fault while it was in warrenty .. start with the GM , dont bother with the service adviser.

No I never purchased car new.

I bought a month after its 2nd anniversary from a college. With the fault know and booked in to Porsche for it to be attended to.

I am currently waiting on the technicians report from when they first tried to fix fault, having difficulty obtaining it and so far been told 2 different stories. 1st it was a software upgrade, 2nd a 4x4 recal. Also the fault couldn't be replicated at that date.

I think it's no more than trying it on.

One thing I can't establish is was car sold with this included or excluded 3rd year warranty.

Either way transfer box shouldn't be banging and clunking at 28000 miles.

I wonder what the outcome will be
I like the car but can't have all this agro and huge bills with what should be relatively trouble free for 3 years 60000 miles.

Seems like you need to speak to your 'college' and ask them why they removed the 3rd year warranty!

Did they tell you the car had a 3 year warranty before they sold it to you?

I am waiting for the original sales invoice, that should establish the 2/3 year issue. He's pretty sure there was no sales pitch to sell an extra 3rd year. Or option to remove 3rd year cost to save. He assumed same as me with nothing un towards.

From the outset the dealer seems to be avoiding being specific about what was done on first visit and the whole warranty issue.

I can't get a straight response from Porsche gb regarding the 3 year warranty at present either.

I am starting to believe it may be to control the late secound hand market cars so the dealers have an oportunity to resell with further warranties.

If that's the case and I find out there was a 3 rd year warranty included from new, now not avaliable to a secound owner at two years that will be interesting. Effectively the dealer trying to charge for manufactures fault whilst clearly in warranty.

Can't help thinking its a good product at reasonable price now I've found the catch.
I might part exchange it for a newer one with a proper 3 year warranty. Take out another one of there extra special additional warranties. 24 months from now and I'll having the same quibble.

Any thoughts on what this TSB I found means. Technician said the clutch is binding in the transfer box when I took him out.
He identified what he thought cloncking was straight away.

Wonder why the same dealer never fixed it or couldn't replacte problem when it first went in if they have a bulletin about defective clutch baskets.

Won't look good for Porsche dealers if this turns out to be the case.
A known defective manufactured part , not fixed under warranty, delayed fix until warranty out to charge customer.

2011 Porsche Cayenne Power Train Service Bulletin 327849

Action Number: 10043470
Service Bulletin Number: 327849
Report Date: Feb 15, 2012
Component: Power Train
Summary: Porsche: the transfer case can cause vibrations while driving due to the possible installation of defective clutch baskets. *

Porsche wont play game with you seeing as the car was out of warranty when you bought it and third year warranties are not Porsche but an Ins co so Porsche cant authorise a claim on a non existent policy however Porsche can and sometimes do repair cars under good will but your approach of being wronged by Porsche will not give you the result you seek. Porsche do read pistonheads so I suggest a more positive stance may assist you in securing the good will you seek.

As I understand it, when you buy a new car from Porsche, you can opt to extend the standard 2 year warranty to 3 years. If you priced a car up in the configurator, it will assume you want a 3 year warranty, and it adds on the cost (you can have this deleted when you order from a dealer).
