Hey guys, just bought myself a 2004 S4

Im coming from a car with a very beefy clutch and just wondering if the high up position of the clutch and biting point right at the top is normal as my old 1.4 octavia was like this but seems odd, love car besides.

Thanks again.

Hey, from memory my one was the same. I got used to it and it was all ok.

potentially its a worn clutch,

Its quite easy to wear the clutch quickly in those if they are driven hard as the driveline wont allow the wheels to spin as easily as a FWD = clutch takes a beating.

They're always fairly light in their action but the bite shouldn't be right at the top.

Does it slip if you rush a change or judder, ever?

No slip or judder.

Only had car afew days, you know when you are listening for any noises thinking everything is broken because you aren't used to it.

I have a 2003 s4 and my bite position is very high as well, good news if that is normal, I was assuming there wasn't much meat on it too and have a clutch bill next year some time

Any idea how much clutch kits are for these ? Last clutch kit i bought was an RS one for my ST was hefty enough at 700 quid inc flywheel

Stock 250.76+VAT for the kit or uprated ones:

You'll probably find the Sachs one for less than that; Euro car parts stock them and always have an offer/deal on.

If there's no judder or vibration your flywheel is probably fine.

Clutch is cheap enough, the fitting less so!

Flywheel prices look mental though and you don't know the condition until it's out

GSF do the kits for about £180ish I think, no idea about labour time, there is an Audi specialist in Bristol which charges 50 quid an hour, which I think is good, how many hours to change it? then you have an idea, stuff paying Audi dealer prices at 100 quid an hour id imagine??

Costs I've seen quoted before are generally £1,500 - £2k including a flywheel.

Not sure I'd want to just change the clutch only, especially if the current one had travelled more than 80k.
