As far as I understand these are limited to up to 499 people. I need to apply for one to extend the hours of a venue by 2 hours on one night but for up to 700 people. It has been suggested that I could apply for two TENs to run at the same time. Is that possible? Otherwise, as far as I understood, I would need to apply for a variation on the premises licence?

Thanks

You can only have one TEN on a given premises at any one time AIUI. Think you'll be having to apply for variation of the premises license, and for that large an uplift in capacity there's going to need to be quite a bit of input in terms of means of escape etc.

The venue capacity is 800. So I'm actually under capacity, however the licence ends two hours earlier than I want it to.

You need to have a man on the door with two "clickers" one for people going in the other for people going out..........if he's not very good at counting groups of people entering so much the better. In the unlikely event a licencing bod shows up show them the two clickers........everybody happy

The problem is not one of capcity, OP says he'll be 100 people below capacity. The Problem is the Op wants to run for 2 hours longer than his license says he can.

So he needs a TEN that will allow him the hours he needs for 499 people (includes serving staff etc). The capacity of the venue won't matter as the "clickers" will only ever show somewhere in the high 400s.

Unless you are at a "problem" venue or are running a risky event you should be ok, we used to grade them 1-5 with 1 being a hells angels convention and 5 being the Jane Austen society.

Almost impossible to tell the difference between 500 and 700 people, particularly as people will be coming and going just be careful how many tickets you show evidence of selling

You need to be very careful with these Jane Austen devotees. No eligible young man is safe.smile

Is the numbers limit on a TEN any different for an outdoor event?

You certainly cant have more than one TEN at a time. Equally unless you are a personal licence holder I don't think you can apply for a variation to the premises licence either.

So really, there's no way around this? I don't think we'll be able to get the venue to agree to a variation in their licence. Either I reduce the numbers, or finish earlier?
