E36 3.0 engine upgrades

I have had my 1996 m3 for about 8 years now as pretty much a dedicated track car. I have developed it over the years except for the engine. It is on 146,000 miles now and the engine is feeling a bit tired now and I would like to give it a bit of a refresh.

I have someone to do the work but would like some guidance from those knowledgeable on the forum on which way to proceed. Do I go for putting a 3.2 engine in or down the route of Schrick cams and ram air. Leave internals as they are or uprate?

Has anyone got any experience of upgrading the engine on the 3.0 and could give guidance.

Next track day is February so plenty of time hopefully.
