That's as much about protecting the gearbox.
rubbish, it's a new thing and people have been racing cars for 80 years without it lolI spoke to a few race drivers back in 2012 about it, and they said, it just makes you nail the braking time after time, where before not possible to heal and toe for 12 corners in 40 laps 100% perfect. with the auto blip is it possible to nail the braking zone 100% of the time in a race.
and there is the issue every one is nailing the braking zone so the race is a train.

That makes sense...less variables, less to distract driverI spoke to a few race drivers back in 2012 about it, and they said, it just makes you nail the braking time after time, where before not possible to heal and toe for 12 corners in 40 laps 100% perfect. with the auto blip is it possible to nail the braking zone 100% of the time in a race.

even the 911 CUP racers in their manuals have auto blip as you make no mistakes, so you get cars following cars like a train, with no skill needed to pilot them :-(
My 997 Cup Car didn't have a blipper - just sequential and 3 pedals - and it was a pig when not full on it !even the 911 CUP racers in their manuals have auto blip as you make no mistakes, so you get cars following cars like a train, with no skill needed to pilot them :-(

what year CUP car ? I am not sure what VIP event I went on with full CUP factory tour with driver talks but they all had Auto blip boxes and I spoke to a few drivers about it a the time.plus there seems to be different cars so again not sure what CUP 911 specs the cars were, as I don't follow that racing.
The first blipper I ever saw was the Manthey one in 2008/9. Porsche didn't bring one out until roughly 2011 as a response to people finally getting the Manthey one approved for racing around the 2011 season.
You still have to clutch on the downshift with or without an auto-blipper being fitted but it certainly takes the stress out of the brake modulation (with no ABS in these cars) and helps with the ever present peril of rear axle lock up if you didn't rev enough with each shift. The gearbox and driveshafts often seemed thankful.
These cars all still used cable operated throttle so the blippers were mechanical devices. This meant they pressed the throttle pedal (or pulled the cable if you had the porsche version) for all gears including reverse. Made you look super cool when trying to find reverse!
TBH, I found that the big change with a blipper was that it made physical fatigue less and lowered stress levels somewhat. I only had one car with one (fitted by previous owner) but it was ok. When I replaced it the next car didn't have it fitted and I never bothered.
The 991 Cup shifted to e-gas type throttle allowing blips to be done from then on with software.
Anyone pick up on the PDK being 6 speed in the clubsport race car? Also 18" wheels with 5 lugs.
