Heluva tight fit prop shaft

I`ve just re-fitted the prop on my S1 after engine/gearbox overhaul it was a b***tard to fit,I had to drop the gearbox off of its mounts to somehow wriggle it on,I have this horrible feeling theres probably a much simpler way of doing it,just for curiousity is there? bit like shutting the stable door after the the horse has bolted Iknow but whatever!!!

just removed the prop on my S3 - bible says it will come out past the diff. I tried for about 30 minutes and there was no way it was going to come out. Anyway I removed the bolts holding the diff in place and dropped the nose of the diff down a couple of inches - it then came out no problem.
