Hi chaps,

In our new house we've inherited (so to speak) a 60" TV above the fireplace. It used to have 2x HDMI cables buried in the wall, however the previous owners had plastered theses older spec cables directly into the wall with no room to replace or move the cable heads through a channel.

As we had 4 devices that needed to feed into the TV (Now TV, Apple TV, Virgin box and XBONE) I opted for a 4:1 device (which I've found to be fairly good apart from the overly bright LED's) to minimise the cables traversing the wall with the intention of tidying it when we got around to decorating the lounge.

Well we're now decorating the lounge and SWMBO thinks one cable is too much, so I was going to go looking for an AV installer when I wondered if there's such a thing as a (good) wireless HDMI dongle? Would any of you guys know of such a thing or have any recommendations for either something that would work with the current 4:1 or maybe replace it as part of a unit?

There are two power sockets behind the TV - both used by the TV and soundbar so would need the recommendation to work without mains power.

Am I right in thinking that you're trying to feed 4 devices into the TV wirelessly? If so, then I don't know of anything that will do it - the wireless HDMI systems are usually for one device (e.g. Blu-ray player) to transmit to another device (TV). The ones I've seen also need mains power at each end (they are, in effect, specialized wireless modems).

Essentially yes. The 4 devices into one obviously won't be on at the same time - I'd be looking for the wireless part to go from the out of the switcher to the in on the soundbar.

In that case the answer is yes, it's possible. There are dongles that have a short range (5-10m), but anything further and you'll probably need mains-powered versions.

Thanks MP. Appreciate it.
5-10 metres is all I need.

How about keeping the cables and just using a wireless 3 into 1 switch to select the feed that you send up the wire to the TV?

Cables always trump wireless imho.
