Hydraulic Brake Question

I brought a new Boardman MTB bike for my Sons birthday (after suggestions on here)

I have been building it but the front pads are closed/together so I can't fit the front wheel.

Can't see how I can adjust it so does it mean I will have to drain the fluid and re-bleed them?

They are SRAM Avid.

I'm guessing there wasn't any packing material between the pads? What's happened is that the brake lever has been squeezed with nothing between the pads which are ferrous and magnetised themselves together. Ideally a thin plastic tyre lever, or a thin straight bladed screwdriver: squeeze it between the pads and then lever them back into their housings. Do NOT contemplate opening the hydraulic system until we've confirmed that's absolutely necessary!!

Genius...one side was out so thats sorted now thanks.

Bad news is some oil leaked out because earlier I undid something I obviously shouldn't have as a result I don't think there is enough oil because the pressure won't build back up. Does that need I will have to bleed it now?

Cheers the heads up, cheaper than everywhere else so a no brainer.

Or just take it to a reputable local bike shop who will probably do the job for about the same price as the bleed kit.
SRAM/Avid brakes can be a real pain to bleed.
