I've heard a lot about ribbon cables lurking with the bowels of the Cerbera and I came across the one in the steering wheel boss for the first time over the weekend, it was like a slinky falling down the stairs with coils and coils here there and everywhere, how I laughed..........

The reason for my initiation was down to creating access to that I can resolve a rather floppy indicator stalk. I see that the pivot point for the stalk relies on a single 'spring loaded' bolt and I'm assuming that the resistance felt in the stalk comes from the little springs that bear on the end of the lever / microswitch arms.

I've read a good number of posts about indicator cancelling, etc. but nothing much about improving this part of the mechanism, i.e. replacing the spring with a solid bush and perhaps beefing up the springs in the lever / microswith area.

What are your thoughts folks?

I'll be busy recoiling the ribbon cable whilst I await your suggestions, I might be some time.......

Cheers

I used to hate the bonnet catch mechanism, until I found out how it was supposed to work and got it adjusted properly. I think you'll find the same with the indicator. It has a solid positive feel and works perfectly on my car and always has, I would never even think about 'improving' it.

It always pays to delve a little deeper. I've just removed the retaining bolts for the helper springs and one of them has snapped in half. So, I'm now on the hunt for new springs.

Thank you for confirming that the setup is good when it isn't knackered.

Cheers

Have you finished re-winding the steering wheel ribbon now though?!

Funny you should ask that. I was just about getting to the end last night when my daughter crept up on me and scared me half to death resulting in yet another slinky moment.........

I called it a day and went in.
