baby seat advice please please please please

hi all,
have just spent ages doing a search on all the different kinds of baby seats that are best for the job but am getting more than a little confused. nothing new there i spose.
so, the nipper is due in 3 weeks so i gather im going to need a group 0 job, cos, like his/her father, he/she will find sitting up for any length of time difficult. so, can anyone tell me from experience which will fit best, offer the best protection and where to get it from etc. apparently, my spd 6 cerbie already has the babyseat fitting kit thingy in it, if that helps anyone at all. and the whole front seat/ back seat issue is secondary in terms of wishes. i really just want to fit whatever is best for everyone, if thats possible, but again, my wife is happy to have a douglas bader if necessary.
id be really appreciative if someone could enlighten me, in fact, what the hell, ill send the nipper round to clean the chim-er-ney as soon as he/ she is big enough.
or, if anyone has one for sale, by all means drop me a line, id be most grateful

For the first six months (approx) he/she will need to be in a rear facing seat. It's my understanding that there are no rear facing seats that fit safely in the back of a Cerbera.
So, it's nipper in the front, Mrs in the back sprawled across both seats most likely (can you tell that I'm speaking from personal experience here
).
So if you're after a rear facing seat, just nip down to Mothercare/Halfords and get them to try a few until you're happy that it's a secure one.

trying the things in the car though is gonna be a bit difficult, you cant get a car anywhere near the shops round here(something to do with the 'new rules' as a result of the amount of ramraids i did when i was a kid)(oh come on, how was i supposed to know it was a sex shop? they looked like sweets)...so, what did you use that fitted in the front and faced back?

My advice :-
Dont use a front facing seat in the rear until the kid is at least 9 months old. Even then only for short journeys. They arent good for kids who cant hold heads up well, for sleeping etc
I bought a recaro for the rear - some £200 ! Very well built and comes out well in safety tests. The kids head is very nr rear speakrs in a cerb, so a cheap seat wont protect them with a side impact (!) but recaro is v good for that. You can buy on line from recaro web site.

thanks gazza, advice is greatly appreciated. sadly, the cerb is the only choice in the family so ill have to experiment and see which is best in the front seat facing tuther way. thanks again though, im grateful for your thoughts. ill almost certainly switch to a recaro when the bairns a bit older.

We used a Maxi Cosi City and that fitted in the front of the Chim without hitting the dashboard.
Recaro have just, this month, released a rear facing Group 0+ seat that may be worth a look.
If you take the Cerb into Mothercare some of the bigger stores will fit a load in to see which is best.

Speed 6 engine and a new nipper no wonder your 'nervous'!!!
PS My Sp6 going OK and nipper now 20 months. Backward facing seat was OK in the Tuscan, but the carving knife found a tow rope and roller skates a bit hairy so had to sell and get a Cerbera.

I had C sections with both my pregnancies and stiches down below with the first one, trying to squeeze in the back of a Cerbera would not have been an option. Most post delivery women will be very sore and tender and a soft comfortable journey home with the wee one would be preferable. Also the midwife will come out to the car with you in some cases to check all is well for the journey home. Don't mean to frighten you I hope all is Ok but it may be worthwhile having a backup plan.

I'd echo that. Cerbie really isn't that practical for everyday/general usage until the little'un can sit in the back and mum in the front.

Joy of this is that you buy a base that you strap into the car (and another for wifey's car) and then the baby seat just clicks on to it. Then when you get out, prod a button and the seat comes out again, and can either be used as a carry cot, or clipped straight on top of the buggy. Thus the little smelly thing can be left fast asleep - you don't have to wake them up to move from cot/buggy/car etc.
I will be testing it in the back of my Cerb tomorrow - it nearly fits in the back, and the Indy has suggested shifting the passenger seat forward on its rails for 12 months - after all the foot well is long enough that it's not really a problem.
The best bit about the Graco, apart from the versatility, is it's a damn sight cheaper than most of the rest - and lighter too - so if the wife has a C-section, it won't be too taxing to lift. Put it this way, the seat and buggy combined are 11kg - a run of the mill Britax buggy is 13kg without the seat! We actually found ours on EBay, reconditioned and cleaned up for £41 including the car seat!

Hi nervous I too have been in this situation, basically we never found a seat that would fit properly in the back for a Group 0+ seat i.e. rear facing. In the front was o.k. but no way could I get the missus in the back especially just after labour !
We have had to wait until he is thirteen months and now he fits in the back nicely with the Recaro and seems to be well strapped in, especially with the safety cushion which was a bit of an issue at first as he looked squashed by it - see pevious thread 'baby squashed by cerb !' So without being a downer try quite a few but be prepared to have to wait - good luck- if you do find one that fits let us all know 'cos then I can try for baby number two !!

Red, id really apreciate it if you let me know how you get on with the seat. funnily enough i had look around on ee-by-gum-bay this evening but since i didnt really know what i was looking for (other than "dead cool rocket powered vehicle seeks man who likes books with speedboats on the cover for fun, picnics, possibley more") i gave up.
id also love to know how you managed to swing any kind of conversion to the car "this close to something so much more important" (if you cant tell, im quoting, and if there were an emotican for a dental-drill-like-shreik that only myself, dolphins and fish at the bottom of the sea can hear, id use it here).
Plus, and im afraid i cant but help this, let me just give you a big "ooooo hark at you" for having a gardener. is that to take the strain away from the little man at the gatehouse and the chap who cleans your spoons? so hard to get good staff these days doncha know..

It's the email walla's day orf, so I'm afraid I'm having to waste my own damn time when I could be having a good toke of rough shag and listening to the gramophone.
Well so long as the little chap with the coffee stays where he is then I can keep my feet propped up on him and type this epistle at my leisure....
Sorting the wife is always a challenge. Frankly whenever she has a go at me for "that car" or any such, I point out that I did purchase her on sale-or-return, and that in reality I should send her back for a refund as defective goods - after all she never irons, rarely cooks, and when was the last time I got a f
ing coffee in bed in the morning?! Surely grounds for a full refund and free upgrade to a younger more pliable model?
Other than that, subterfuge always works well - if she can't see it, she doesn't know I've spent it! Having said that, when I had the wadding taken out of the Chimaera's exhaust last year, she never noticed the 8dB volume difference..... Just stood there telling me that Harvey Nicks had another sale, and look what she got...
