European Classic Insurance Cover - without time restrictions

I am looking for 12mth European cover without success.

I am now in a situation, where I want to travel throughout Europe with the car (a sort of grand tour, taking up to 12mths), but cannot be limited to 30 days/60 days/90 days restrictions, as I cannot keep breaking up the trip to return to the UK.

Years ago, I managed to obtain a 12mth Green Card for a similar journey, but these now seem to be unavailable.

Strangely, if it was a motorhome, they would insure it no problem!!!

Has anyone got any ideas, or experience of companies who may offer such cover?

I concentrated on the 'usual' culprits who were all completely useless.

Probably because the green card is irrelevant to any of the countries you're likely to be going to. There's an international insurance agreement, which covers all the EU and most "friendly" neighbours, which says that your normal insurer MUST cover you, no matter what. All year.

BUT... UK insurers still look at a map and see "Here be Dragons" at Calais, so restrict policyholders to just the bare legal minimum they have to get away with except for 30/60/90-day full cover. The green card just proved that bare legal minimum is in place, so you've effectively got a full-year green card for free anyway.

It does seem that UK insurers are making their own rules.

Ironically, I also own a home and cars in France and French insurance cover automatically includes cover in ALL EU countries.........including the UK!

Hard to believe that English insurers are worse than the French!

Not quite - the rules say you must provide legal minimum cover in all those countries who are signatories. UK insurers provide legal minimum cover. What they don't provide is what they don't have to provide - which is the extras on top. Comprehensive cover, etc.

The French aren't in denial about having neighbours.

Try Hagerty, they were helpful when my TR6 was in Portugal for a while.
