Early 'Friends' was great but the later ones bored the pants off me.

I was never a big fan of friends to be honest, and didn't bother watching Joey either because of it.

Doesn't it have something like 4 ad breaks across in the USA?

I watched it - thought it was quite good, certainly has potential.

Hate the canned laughter though.

I think Friend is one of the finest examples of comedy writing and performance in TV history.

I thought Joey was ok, but it has an unattainable target to live up to.

I'll wait and see how it goes.

Remember Ernie? I'm sure he made it all up.

seen up to ep 17 of Joey from the states, really does get a lot better as the series goes on.

Wasn't too keen on the pilot but gave it a chance and it's developed into a very funny (in a silly way) show, with likable characters and some decent cameos too.

Could have been a complete mess, but worked out alright in my opinion.

I thought it was going to be terrible so I didn't watch it.

Clearly I was wrong. I'll watch it sometime.

I'll give Joey Tribiani a go too, though to be honest I'd prefer a series based around Joey Deacon and his friend who translated Joey's gibberish into something approaching intelligible language.

Actually mixing them up would be rather good to. Try saying "How you doin'?" whilst attempting to bite your ear. Definate potential there.

Just re-read Alex's post above and saw reference to "Ernie" whose name I'd forgotten in a haze of bubble-gum and airfix-glue. I agree - a likely chancer on the make. Got himself a nice little bungalow on the basis of a story about a shoe overboard, IIRC.

Never watched Friends (got roped into will and grace my GF tho) and therefore don't know who TF Joey is, but when I saw the thread title JD was the first thing that popped into my mind, even though I was very young when he was starring in Blue Peter. You still get guys at football matches shouting 'That ref's a fg joey'

Personally, I thought it was quite funny. I never liked Friends - the characters were just too glossy and model-like, the laughter to frequent and vigourous to be genuine, and the whole thing had an aura of cheesiness about it.

Joey on the other hand has the potential to be very funny indeed - firstly, the character's a no-hoper (don't ya get sick of US comedies featuring successful people and happy endings? Did that ever happen on Fawlty Towers?), his sister's hilarious, his brother's a geek (makes a change from all the jocks who get wolf-whistled every time they turn up), and it seems to take the piss out of, rather than kiss the toes of, Hollywood. I think I'm going to like it.
