Received as a gift, fair enough. But nearly £3 per kit seems kinda steep? it doesn't say what quantity of spices you get in a kit, so I'm assuming it's only one meal's worth?

Had one as a gift some years back, curry one. Made some amazing dishes but to be honest once you've made it you have a list of the ingredients and the recipe so it's easy enough to make it again but from your own spice rack.

Admittedly some of the kits did come with stuff you might not usually have e.g. black cardamom but I'm sure it's easy enough to source such things.

Got the first one already: Sri Lankan beef smore, and something called a love cake! Got a free sample 'Boxing Day curry' spice sachet too, which not having read it I assume is a turkey leftovers do. Looks alright! Big bunch of whole spices and some rose petals, aswell as spice mixes.

That actually looks pretty good for the price. Looks like there are enough spices for a few meals.

We were given some of these. Still have one to use I think, but they're great. Properly worth the money IMO, but the butter chicken was hot!!!!

Look like a great idea as gift but for your own use I'd urge anyone to hunt down their local Asian corner shop, and the dodgier the area the better. I go to one in Aldershot that has a massive supply of spices at a fraction of the price you pay in supermarkets.

I've had these brought for my past two birthdays and Christmas. They are a great way of trying something new and pushing your skills in the kitchen at the same time. We've not had a bad kit yet and there is always enough to freeze half for later on.

fair play except there are probably a fair amount of people who don't really live that close to one or would pay for convenience. Personally I love delving around specialist supermarkets, and there's a great thai one in manchester that also doubles as a cafe with some of the best thai food i've had in UK, but I still value not having to trek a 35 mile round trip every time i want to cook something interesting. On the other hand I don't think I'd sign up indefinitely. I've already signed up to coffee and craft beer subscriptions, don't need more money coming out each month!!

To be honest, amazon groceries is a really good bet these days. You can get all sorts of more exotic things you won't get in tesco, and in decent quantities if you need them. Free delivery on prime. However I wouldn't want to promote that as the ingredients sourcing place of choice as it would squeeze the interesting specialist supermarkets out over time.
