Hi.
MOT'd my Griffith today after a long lay up.
Passed, emissions were tough but finally got there.
It started coughing on the way back from the test and cut out as I pulled into a petrol station, was very low on fuel anyway, figured it was running out. Stopped and half filled tank.
Won't start.
Melted the earth lead whilst trying to crank it.
I've replaced the earth with heavier duty cable - it's cranking better so figure there was a problem there.
It then started, briefly. Ran very rough then cut out. Sounded like it was firing on 4 cylinders
Have checked fuel and spark, both there. Fuel pump is priming as it should.
May be my imagination but I can only smell fuel in one exhaust as I'm cranking it.
First time it's been driven since May last year, however it's been being started and moved around a workshop on a regular basis.
Not sure best place to start - ideas most welcome.

People far better qualified than I will be along shortly but the smell of fumes out of one exhaust is a red herring, the exhaust is a single pipe that splits into two before the silencer therefore same fumes. I would check all live and earth fixings are tight first. Good luckMOT'd my Griffith today after a long lay up.

Have you confirmed spark at all 8 plugs (use a spare plug and move through the leads one at a time)
immobilise/de-immobilise the car let the fuel pump prime, then pull the fuel relay out, put/hold the gas pedal flat to the floor and crank, assuming you have air & spark + fuel in the rail from pump prime, this should induce an attempt to start albeit temporarily until the fuel in the rail runs out, replace the fuel relay and repeat hopefully it will start.

Sorry, missed replies was away for weekend.
QBee am in Colchester - I've ordered an ignition kit for it, not too bad on price as it goes. The leads were shot, and the distributor past its best.
The AFM contacts are crap, I've a spare knocking around to try.
Thanks for the tip on the injectors. Definitely one to check after the way it was running.
