Thinking of changing the wife's car and went into a local VW dealer this afternoon to have a look at a new Golf GTI 5 door DSG. I was very impressed with the standard equipment level, the only things she wanted to add were leather interior and sunroof. Had a quick work through some figures which were within budget but I'm sure we could do better. Going to test drive one on Saturday and hope it's not to choppy as its quote a small car. The kids are older now so she wants to downsize from a Volvo V70.

Can anyone tell me what I should be looking to get off ? Went online and got offered 15% off straightaway so thought I might be able to push for a little more if I go in to do a deal ready with deposit. Will be on PCP.

Any help appreciated and has anyone recently bought one, are they happy with the car ?

Thanks

I managed 15% before diesel gate kicked off so there should be more room now.

The ride very good but I did go for the DCC which I run in comfort most of the time.

GTI is a fantastic car, I love mine.

Absolute gits!!!!

So it got me thinking, and I've done a WBAC value on my wifes 2014 Gti with a view to a new one. VW are giving a £1k contribution on top if you have a VW already. Doesnt have to be partexed.

Not entirely sure how you can get a 15% discount, unless you're factoring in the £1250 deposit contribution and the £1000 loyalty money, as the total margin in a Golf is 14.5% and I've yet to work for any garage or franchise where head office didn't put 2-2.5% to the back page so wasn't available as trading margin.

Cosworth330 if you'd like us to quote for you please feel free to PM me and I'll see what I can do to support a local PH'er.

My best quote is 14.6% with the deposit contribution but ex loyalty bonus.

Just checking whether they want my 2014 Gti before I weigh up the WBAC offer. Then I need to check the in stock models to weigh up the wait.

Most online deals will be about 10% then if you factor in the £1250 dep con you're getting to 14/15%. Sounds like a good deal.

Seems a great time to buy as the new initiatives/ contributions come in on top of the ~10% discount level already achievable

Been quoted 15% discount off a new GTI in stock. Anyone managed to get the loyalty bonus as well without actually having a VW ?

Got an e-mail from DTD today saying 17.5% saving on "VW Golf 2.0 TSi GTi 5dr [Nav]*" This gives £23,332.

Apparently the asterisk means including the finance taken.

Also check Motorpoint, just make sure it is a UK car, they had some nice cars (new) around £23K

I read that VW car sales in the UK have dropped by 20% since the emissions scandal, wouldn't be suprised if it was near that figure. They must be keen to recover.

My Dads just bought one thanks to a thread in here - he got it direct from the dealer but they were price matching orangewheels.co.uk. You can save extra by buying on finance and then paying off within a couple of days.

Had a test drive this morning and I was pleasantly suprised. The demo car had the 19s and standard suspension. For a small car I thought it wasn't too crashy over poor roads. The only real negative was quite a lot of cabin noise/ road nose from the tyres compared with what I'm used to in my wife's current Volvo V70 D5 R design and my E60 M5 but then we are talking about a lot cheaper car new and smaller. Maybe road noise will be less with the 18s?
It was effortless to drive and the DCT was very smooth so I would think it would be a relaxing drive as well as quite a bit of fun when needed. Not bothered about performance pack as it will be my wife's car and she's not interested in driving it that hard plus I will still have my M5.

Just need to get the best deal and also want a car registered March 1st 16 plate.

Thanks for the replies and advice.

Road noise will be massively improved by better tyres. VW insist on fitting Bridgestones, or at best Continental Sport Contact 2 tyres, neither of which are great. I changed mine to Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 tyres and road noise improved massively, as did grip and turn in feel.

The MK7 Golf wheelbase isn't actually that short, so it's a pretty relaxing car to do long motorway journeys in.

The bridgestones are ok, they do a reasonable job of gripping the road in my gti. They might not be the best but they are far from awful.
