Hi all, after some advice on acumate charger from Leven Technology, how easy / difficult is it to fit the under bonnet Anderson/Jumpstart/charge lead to battery terminals ? Thanks

I installed a 50amp Anderson connector.

I ran the cables from my Odyssey PC1500 battery front auxiliary terminals under the carpet and over the rear wheel arch ending with a two foot tail in the boot that's looped around the rear light unit when not needed.

When I'm parked in the garage this tail leaves enough free length to extend to my Ring Smart Charger Pro RSCPR50 sat on the racking some distance behind the car.

I replaced the crocodile clips on the Ring Smart Charger Pro with another 50amp Anderson connector, all I do is back the car into the garage, pop the boot and hook up to the charger.

When I disconnect before driving away I hook the battery cables up to my LED boot light which (yes you guessed it) I've fitted with another 50amp Anderson connector.

I also have a Battery Brain that allows me to disconnect the battery remotely, so I'm actually running the low amp charge into a battery that's disconnected from the car and any possible parasitic drain. The Battery Brain is also used as a secondary security device when I'm away from home, and will even disconnect the battery automatically if I forget to press the IR fob and it senses the charge is getting dangerously low.

This all means the battery is either...

1. Disconnected

3. Disconnected and being charged by the Smart Charger Pro

3. Being charged by the alternator while I'm driving

The above results in no flat battery, under any situation...EVER!

And a battery that should last 10 years or more wink

Total overkill but totally infallible thumbup

The under bonnet anderson connector is usually not connected directly to the battery.

The +ve is connected to the starter motor heavy duty feed (which is connected directly to the battery)

The earth is connected to the chassis

Fitting this way is a simple job which can be done on the driveway on axle stands in around 30 minutes.

A fly lead for the accumate can be fitted to the battery and routed to somewhere convenient for regualr charging if required.

Mine has one in the boot but its stopped working.

A friend lent me his Aston Martin one (its really not that posh and looks cheap) that plugs into the cig lighter. Its much easier to use.

If you use the battery connection kit that is available with them its very easy to bring the charger connection into the engine bay, the charger can then be plugged in easily instead of faffing under the dash with the battery.

My Accumate died after 5 years use, but I have a suspicion it slowly over cooked the battery as it had to eventually be replaced and showed signs of overcharging.

Got a Ctek MXS5.0 now which switches to a long term program after 7 days and feels altogether more sophisticated (via cig socket)
